It's weird because I like some vaporwave (which is essentially the opposite in terms of how the music is being produced, but still involves editing speed)

@northernnarwhal yeah imo vaporwave is more interesting than Nightcore. Also I just discovered a new speed based genre, Lento Violento, it's like slow old hardstyle basically

@northernnarwhal as far as I can tell, the older stuff is more similar to Italo Disco, while newer stuff it takes on a hardstyle vibe to the kicks

@rarity I don't know what I expected, first song I checked out is basically just slowed down hardstyle as you described. I guess what I love about vaporwave is that it's not just slowing stuff down, it also has this irresistible 80s vibe to it too.

@northernnarwhal Also as far as I can tell through youtube, the only people who listen to it anymore are Spanish-speakers. So... not that uncommon in older Electronic music

@rarity It's basically an old German electronic music subgenre that takes heavy influence from hardcore punk and can also draw from breakbeat, industrial, and other styles from time to time. I'm kinda into it.

@northernnarwhal that sounds just like someone going absolutely ham on a modified drum kit and it's pretty cool. Also the general "vibe/tempo" really reminds me of break music, not breakbeat, just break. you know, the kind of stuff that sounds like it's from a chase scene from a movie

@rarity I get what you mean, as I said it's not breakbeat but can draw break influence. Check out the second video I posted as well, Venetian Snares is brilliant and doesn't get nearly as much love and exposure as he deserves.

@rarity He has a really massive discography, ~25% of which is gold, ~50% of which is just good, and ~25% of which is meh. Chocolate Wheelchair is one of his better ones, along with Huge Chrome Cylinder. Rossz Csillag Allat Szuletett is his masterpiece in my opinion.

@savorysword I'm kind of on and off with them. I feel like as a creator you shouldn't adhere to them but as a listener they're handy. Basically you hear something and go yourself "I like this, I want to find out if there's a name for this kind of style so I can find other things similar to this".

@rarity ;~; </33333 Very typical of them though, they were known for being unpredictable and sporadic. I mean, their previous few album releases totally came out of nowhere and they've cancelled live dates before. Fitting they would post a goodbye note on a napkin randomly. Although they are still promising part two of their final album, so I still have that to look forward to. Although it's still kind of a shame, they came out of nowhere and became these enigmatic figureheads for a new era in hip hop, now they're disappearing at the height of their careers. I will regret not ever seeing them live, but I guess that's how the cookie crumbles.
