  1. Hmm. So when you format a drive using the Wii U, Even Linux simply does not recognize the existence of that partition. Makes sense, considering they 100% made it that way in order to make it harder to hack.

    1. @techdisk They use a different partition type than anything- you had to format thumb drives the same way for the original Wii to recognize any playable data.

      1. @soren Unless, of course, you homebrewed your wii.

      2. @soren I didn't know that the Wii ever used thumb drives, only SD cards. And it used SD cards formatted in whatever you wanted, usually FAT or FAT32.

        1. @techdisk (of course, I know it has USB ports, but still)

        2. @techdisk The Wii couldn't read game disk data (eg ISOs of Wii games) unless it was formatted into it's own partition. This would be while homebrewed.

Homebrew data, yeah, but data meant to be run on the original Wii, no.

          1. @soren aaaaahhh. That makes sense. I never got around to ripping my games onto USB. I only ever looked at pictures on a normally formatted USB drive and played a few DVD movies just for the heck of it.

            1. @techdisk Yeah- the USB actually ran a bit faster than the CD and then you didn't have to switch.
Back when I was living at home, my mother broke the Wii's CD reader anyway so I didn't have a choice at that point.

              1. @soren Right. I hacked my wii simply because I was bored and wanted to see if I could. Turned out to be a good idea since I was able to do a full restore of it after I transferred everything to my Wii U.

                1. @techdisk I did it so I could play emulated games on it. Should have just got a Raspberry Pi but you know =P

                    1. @techdisk I feel like i'm totally misusing it. It, inside it's case, is currently being used simply to prop up something. Jeez. I need to install some stuff on there.

      3. @soren I used a normal FAT32-formatted drive when I used a USB bootloader on my Wii

        1. @redenchilada Huh. Must have updated the program- I haven't used it in 5 or so years.

          1. @soren I used it last September so there have probably been some advancements. I did have to flash a couple new cIOSes onto it to make the whole thing work, anyway.
