    Quite frankly, control of your data isn't comparable. Both twitter and statusnet have an API, and statusnet's backup feature has never worked properly anyway.

      And note, I'm not saying StatusNet is generally worse. I'm just saying Twitter's backend isn't a buggy pile of dole that shows some random person's notices on your timeline when it shouldn't be.
