"IF YOU DON'T KNOW THE MEANING OF MINT CONDITION, THIS SHOP ISN'T FOR YOU."
That one's... not even paraphrased. The sign literally said that.Monday, 03-Nov-14 13:04:15 UTC from web-
@redenchilada I've seen paper stained with old, liquified mint candy, if I remember correctly. Does that count?
Monday, 03-Nov-14 13:05:46 UTC from web-
@nerthos I read that sign and literally expected to hear a corny laugh track and for the back wall to fall away to reveal a live studio audience

@redenchilada What the... How is this place still open?
Monday, 03-Nov-14 14:03:33 UTC from web-
@theanneh Maybe a lot of people know about mint condition. Or maybe the mafia's laundering money through it.
Monday, 03-Nov-14 14:09:59 UTC from web-
@nerthos Yeah, but I wouldn't sell anything mint to people like that.
I may be bitter, but murdock like that bananases me off. I had someone working at a comic shop emphatically argue with me that a run of The Hulk "didn't exist." (I was looking for the last bit before Planet Hulk, which of course exists.) He refused to help me even look. Well, turns out they had it in stock.
I got reeeaaaally cherriesed. He also told my brother he would not let him see a MTG card he was interested in because his "fingers have destructive oils." It was a ten dollar card. And sleeved.
So I put the Hulk comics on the store table in front of him and left.
I wanted to say something grapesy or clever but I wasn't strong willed enough. XDMonday, 03-Nov-14 14:16:18 UTC from web-
@theanneh Well, I have no similar experiences with comic stores as I rarely go to them (they're not that common around here) but once I did a smear campaign on a music/games store because they sold me a game that refused to work and was a direct rip, something they denied.
Monday, 03-Nov-14 14:20:27 UTC from web-
@nerthos I know how you feel. My comic store is 2hrs away. ;;
And wtf. That's pretty grapesty. :/Monday, 03-Nov-14 14:21:50 UTC from web-
@theanneh The game worked on another computer I got later on, but that's how rips are, hit and miss. Wether they work or not is arbitrary and depends on the computer, even if within the hardware requirements. I can go to the country's capital (Buenos Aires) in about hour and a half in bus, or 40 minutes in the car, and there are stores for literally everything over there; yet the heat-irradiating architecture of the place, dog poo everywhere, and overcrowded streets mean that I only go if I really need to.
Monday, 03-Nov-14 14:26:04 UTC from web-
@nerthos They shouldn't have sold you a rip in the first place and refunded your money. :/
That sucks. I wish there was a good store near you that wasn't in Buenos Aries. 'Cause that sounds awful.Monday, 03-Nov-14 14:33:08 UTC from web-
@theanneh All the games are pirated, everyone knows that, there is no real legit market around here since years ago they kiwied up the prices big time, people decided to start selling pirated copies, and once everyone got used to it there was no way legit games could compete. Rarely people buy originals from stores, most people nowadays either buy pirated or from steam sales.
Buenos Aires isn't really /that/ bad if you're used to metropolii, I just never liked ultra urban areas. Grew up in the outskirts, so I like greener and calmer places where the pigeons fly away when you go near them instead of climbing on a table and staring you dead in the eye while pecking fries.Monday, 03-Nov-14 14:40:13 UTC from web-

@nerthos That... is different. You couldn't get away with selling pirated games here. :v
Tuesday, 04-Nov-14 00:35:34 UTC from web-
@theanneh Over here you need to have a stall or store in an area that is subject to a police raid or walk into the police station trying to sell them to get charged with anything related to piracy. Wich happened once. Some guy walked in with a whole bunch of pirated CDs/DVDs and the cops were forced to arrest him to keep up appearances. They probably facepalmed until their hands got sore too. It's the distributors' fault though. You can't expect to charge a tenth of a salary for a game and have people buy it.
Tuesday, 04-Nov-14 00:40:24 UTC from web-
@nerthos Totally understandable. I have a disposable income and can't afford games. I would buy a lot more if there were lowered prices. I'm sure profits would increase a lot if prices dropped. Nintendo is doing fine and all their games are 20 usd cheaper new than everything else.
Tuesday, 04-Nov-14 03:15:20 UTC from web-
@theanneh Thankfully due to Steam, GOG, Humble Bundle and other services, games are becoming far more affordable. Whilst these distribution services mean there are far less people making a living from the game industry, it also means far less intermediaries and therefore lower prices. I'e been buying quite a few games recently due to sales in those places.
Tuesday, 04-Nov-14 03:36:04 UTC from web-
@nerthos indie devs can now make games and money from them. That's important. c: I'm a steam sale junky. My wallet. It's moving on it's own.

@theanneh I'm more of a GOG guy but I do jump on good steam sales when they show up. My aversion for everything involving non physical money when it comes to transactions has saved my wallet quite a few times.
