I couldn't remember the last time I changed my cabin air filter, and I finally got around to doing it after noticing my blower motor operating with reduced efficiency. I never thought it was possible for so many leaves to be stuffed into that housing above the blower motor. I think I will try to replace my Corolla's cabin air filters more regularly after dealing with this.

@m14brony But you probably won't.
-
@m14brony at least you didn't end up with dead mice like I've seen in a few already. Not a good smell when it finally hits the vents.
-
@saintnichawlas I didn't have to deal with any dead mice in that housing, fortunately. However, I could very well run into dead mice, bats, birds, etc. when I get into the HVAC field (they occasional like to go into the intake of high efficiency furnaces and result in no heat calls, given that their obstruction prevents the pressure switch from closing).
-
@m14brony pretty much the same with the blower systeme in cars. We get it mostly in spring or it tags along a "no A/C" diagnostics. Which I genuinely detest having to do.
-
@derpy128 I probably will. I didn't give it much thought, as there was a lack of bad odors in the car. The assembly for this filter is easy to access, as one just needs to remove the Corolla's glove box. Furthermore, an HVAC major like me should know better (some no heat and no cooling calls are a result of a customer not regularly changing filters on a furnace, rooftop unit, etc.). :P

@m14brony well to be fair cars in this country didn't start havin them until 2001 unless they were really high-end.
-
@saintnichawlas But the thing is that I knew about my car having a cabin filter, as this isn't the first time it has been changed. :P From now on, I will probably check it annually instead of waiting for a bad smell. :P
-
@m14brony annually is more an engine filtre interval. I'd say every other year but it's your car, in the end.
-
@saintnichawlas I have heard varying intervals about cabin filters. For instance, I have often heard that they should be changed every 30,000 miles. At the same time, the carton of the filter I bought said every 15,000 miles. I have a K&N engine intake filter, so I simply take that out, clean it, and retreat it with that red spray annually.
-
@m14brony Newer cars yes 30k, older ones 15k. K&N is the way to go; first thing I bought for the Avalon outside of synthetic oil.
-
@saintnichawlas Ah, I see. I can probably get by with 30,000 miles if I have a 2008 car. I am pretty sure I waited far longer than that. :P
