      1. @northernnarwhal What do you think of Weezer, Sublime, Smashing Pumpkins etc.

Friday, 20-Mar-15 08:42:48 UTC from web
        1. @schwarzen Weezer: Love their first two records to death, mixed feeling on everything else ranging from alright to get the hell out
Sublime: Ambivalent, I've heard lots of their records but never really got into them or disliked them
Smashing Pumpkins: Pretty good but hella overrated. Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie are both solid though.

          1. @northernnarwhal Was getting something to drink srry, I enjoy a bit of weezer, a few songs from Sublime and a few songs from Smashing Pumpkins. I could never really get into any of the three though.

                        1. @schwarzen Yeah, even though I wasn't crazy about Damon's most recent solo album new Gorillaz always warrants excitement. Here's hoping for some cool guest features on the new record too.

                      2. @northernnarwhal Whats your perspective on metal? Metallica, SOAD, Slayer, etc.

Friday, 20-Mar-15 09:00:03 UTC from web
                        1. @schwarzen Not really into any of those guys too much, or I was into them in the past and now mostly listen to them out of nostalgia from time to time. That being said, I still am a metal fan (even if I don't listen to the genre as often as I used to). I'm a really big black metal nerd and love everything from the genre's roots like Mayhem, Emperor, and Ulver to more newer and experimental groups like Altar of Plagues, Liturgy, and Deafheaven. I've actually seen Deafheaven live and it's one of the best shows I've ever been to, plus it was right around the time Sunbather came out. I'm also into a lot of other metal genres like sludge metal, prog metal, death metal, metalcore (note when I say this I don't mean those crappy scene bands I mean the really raw stuff like Converge and Botch), and post metal. Actually, the war on terror has made it difficult to talk about one of my favourite metal bands of all time, who happened to be named Isis http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isis_%28band%29

                          1. @northernnarwhal Im really into Metallica, and Sabbath. The only band ive listened to that might be considered prog is Symphony X, and I enjoyed a bit of their stuff.

                            1. @schwarzen Even back when I was into prog Symphony X never really caught on for me. They're talented but I felt their stuff was just way too theatrical (which I understand is the case with a lot of prog, but I still think there are tasteful ways of executing it)

                              1. @northernnarwhal I really enjoy the theatrical aspect, the 20 minute long odyssey was really enjoyable to me.

                                1. @schwarzen Yeah, I guess for me it's hit and miss. For a while when I was into prog my favourite band was Between the Buried and Me (and I still like them these days though I haven't really listened to them in a while) and they were all about those really long ass conceptual pieces (hell, their most recent album is a space opera about the end of the universe told through a 30 minute EP and 72 minute LP). But it's fun and interesting because the songwriting is really engaging too, and while technical it's not just a bunch of batcaveery. I respect the talent of Symphony X but their music can't hold my attention at all.

                                  1. @northernnarwhal I feel ya, I enjoy their stuff when im like, on a plane or forced to take a really long bus lol.

Friday, 20-Mar-15 09:23:14 UTC from web
                                    1. @schwarzen Though these days as far as really long metal goes I'm more into black metal and post metal, generally really atmospheric stuff.

                                    2. @schwarzen Drone metal is pretty cool too though admittedly I'm not as well versed in it as I am with other genres. Sunn O))) are totally rad though.
