@northernnarwhal Kind of been listening to some pretty generic music. Some not so though, Listening to a melody put to the tune of Flander's Fields. And some (I assume) to be traditional south African music.

@metaltao Oh neat. I've actually studied a bit of traditional African folk music for my drum lessons. It's really incredible music, polyrhythms are gorgeous to listen to and a ton of the popular rhythm patterns you hear in popular dance music were originally found in African drum pieces.

@northernnarwhal Were they really? I usually thought they came from more... well.. actually thinking about it, it makes sense.
I mean, I used to think they came from similar places as the Amen Break came from. Sadly, I didn't think beyond that.Sunday, 08-Nov-15 01:58:22 UTC from web-
@metaltao Oh yeah, music's a really old medium so the history of influence is really rich

@northernnarwhal It is everywhere, there is lore behind it, legends, stories, supernatural beliefs and even religious names such s Diablo En Musica. The three note chord thought to be... Satanist.

@metaltao Here's a modern interpretation of what I'm talking about, this is all technically in 4s but there are polyrhythms in a ton of other meters going here that give it that sense of "groove" lots of dance music is really well known for (you can hear lots of this in funk, disco, dance rock, EDM, etc.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrEqNTyMF_A
