    1. @spots idk man, coloring is the best tbh

      1. @bobo I like making a copy of a drawing before colouring in case I like the original better

      2. @bobo you're actually wrong

    2. @spots Colouring usually comes pretty easily to me, but shading is where it becomes much more difficult but rewarding for me

      1. @northernnarwhal I have never been able to color in the lines so I just kinda have to erase everything

        1. @spots What do you usually colour with?

Thursday, 14-Jan-16 02:29:37 UTC from web
          1. @northernnarwhal well I don't color unless it's digital stuff and then I just use the same thing I draw with

            1. @spots Staying within the lines can be a bit more tough digitally, though I'm not really experienced with lots of digital art so I don't know if I can offer much constructive advice in that regard aside from "colour patiently".

              1. @northernnarwhal I do it as best I can but I'll be darned if it doesn't take a long-ass time

                1. @spots I know the feeling, I'm far from a perfectionist but I'm no stranger to putting a long time into artistic endeavours. I'm letting a classmate take lead creative direction on a group assignment for the studio that a few of us are working on, because I know if I had full and final creative control we'd never finish it in time.

                  1. @northernnarwhal I just want this to look clean and nice and not like I threw up on a perfectly nice drawing, which is sadly difficult to achieve :(

                      1. @northernnarwhal Just tell her the layer thing I said because she can't see my posts.

                    2. @spots From what I've been told, another technique worth trying is to make a line layer, and colour in the layer under it. Hopefully that helps!

                1. @nerthos This works. I imagined there'd be a way to colour efficiently in a digital medium but lack lots of digital art experience.

                  1. @northernnarwhal I've seen it done and thought it was a really smart way to make it super easy. I'm too lazy to actually do it most of the time though.

                    1. @nerthos I've drawn with a tablet a few times but I'd say a good 95% of my drawing experience is just through pencil/marker on paper

                      1. @northernnarwhal Same. Never got used to digital stuff, so most of the time I just make paint drawings like that Peridot I posted last night.

                        1. @nerthos I've done some abstract art in digital mediums just because I can much more easily play around with the compositions, but as far as actual character or architectural drawings go I tend to stick with traditional pen and paper as I'm more used to it.

                          1. @northernnarwhal At the cost of not being able to screw up and redo everything, pen or pencil allows for much more detail.

                            1. @nerthos Also I know you can rotate a frame when drawing digitally but being able to move your page around however you want while drawing with pen or pencil is really convenient.

                              1. @northernnarwhal I'd rotate the tablet out of habit

Thursday, 14-Jan-16 02:47:04 UTC from web
                                1. @nerthos Yeah, I have lots of muscle memory stroke movements I tend to make when drawing stuff like hair, so I tend to rely a lot on being able to turn the page around.
