  1. Hey... I'm Fluttershy. I saw this site and made an account. I hope you don't mind...

    1. @comradeconventrix What the hell vehicle has both a rudder AND a tractor beam?

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:00:18 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
      1. @ceruleanspark A spaceship able to land on water? Like the Bebop in Cowboy Bebop?

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:01:52 UTC from web
        1. @nerthos Technically the Bebop was a boat able to travel in space.

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:02:28 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
          1. @ceruleanspark Oooh? You're a Cowboy Bebop fan?

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:04:09 UTC from web
            1. @nerthos Yes. Very much.

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:04:26 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
              1. @ceruleanspark I would have never guessed. I'm pretty rusted in CB stuff, since it's been a while since I last saw it, but it has been one of my favourite animes since I first saw it on TV when young.

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:05:50 UTC from web
                1. @nerthos Yeah, the Bebop was Jet's old fishing boat that he modified because he loved it to much to leave behind.

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:25:48 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                  1. @ceruleanspark I really need to read more into the whole thing. I only saw the anime and the movie. Was there a manga and/or specials/OVAs?

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:28:24 UTC from web
                    1. @nerthos There's a manga, but I think it's pretty much the anime. There is an OVA movie.

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:29:17 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                      1. @ceruleanspark The one chronologically set between episodes 22 and 23 or something like that? With the virus?

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:31:27 UTC from web
                        1. @nerthos Yeah.

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:32:29 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                          1. @ceruleanspark Saw it. Well, I'll have to rewatch it all!

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:33:03 UTC from web
    2. @comradeconventrix an underwater tractor beam would actually work pretty well. You'd just need to aim it at someone and have it suck in water from one end and pump it out of the other, drawing other waterborne objects towards it.

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:05:29 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
    3. @comradeconventrix We all live in a red submarine, red submarine...

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:07:35 UTC from web
    4. @comradeconventrix Solid objects show up on sonar.

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:08:45 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
      1. @ceruleanspark Jelly submarine.

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:10:23 UTC from web
    5. @comradeconventrix In fact, I had to google the lyrics, because I don't like The Beatles at all.

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:11:19 UTC from web
    6. @comradeconventrix You know, "I saw it on a movie" makes anything seem less convincing xD

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:14:00 UTC from web
    7. @comradeconventrix Strictly speaking there is active and passive sonar. Passive sonar is what you are talking about, and active is what I was talking about. Also, a jet-powered submarine would create distinctive, detectable turbulence in the water.

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:21:33 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
      1. @ceruleanspark Even more than a propeller powered one, unless it travels inside underwater currents, greatly limiting it's movement possibilities.

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:24:13 UTC from web
    8. @comradeconventrix If you're moving underwater, you're creating detectable turbulence. More than a novel engine design, alternative approaches to hydrodynamic design would be a more effective way to build a stealth-submarine.

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:32:18 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
    9. @comradeconventrix That concept is hilarious. Unlike air, water is dense enough to leave a noticeable trace when an object moves in it.

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:34:30 UTC from web
    10. @comradeconventrix If you've got some kind of magic substance that allows water to travel smoothly over the surfaces without creating turbulence.

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:34:47 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
      1. @ceruleanspark Maybe by creating a strong dynamic electromagnetic field? Still, that would be even harder to hide.

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:35:48 UTC from web
        1. @nerthos Except that it would have an effect on all the instruments of yours and all surrounding submarines

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:37:57 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
          1. @renovatedkitchen Not if the submarine's hull works as a Faraday cage, that way, it'll only be sensor blind and without communications while in "stealth mode" much like any already developed invisivility technology.

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:41:09 UTC from web
      2. @ceruleanspark Not to mention something to absorb a ping. If they could somehow get an underwater ion drive, that would be neat. Not saying that it would travel at all with our current rate of reasearch.

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:36:40 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
        1. @renovatedkitchen You could absorb a ping using existing stealth technology easily enough. You'd just need to scatter the soundwaves the same way the F117 did with radar.

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:38:55 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
    11. @thepavilionman Or train a cardumen of fishes to carry them.

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:38:38 UTC from web
    12. @thepavilionman Weird, I googled it to see if it was used in English.

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:41:30 UTC from web
    13. @comradeconventrix Shoal.

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:42:43 UTC from web
    14. @comradeconventrix If he recognized the language, he can google translate it.

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:44:08 UTC from web
    15. @thepavilionman The thing is, wobbly underwater invisibility is easier to deal with because water is much easier to manipulate than either light or electromagnetism

Friday, 15-Jun-12 10:48:02 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
    16. @thepavilionman Depends how big your submarine is, and what kind of manipulation you need to do really.
