@rarity I mean, the actual movement's dead, but there is still some background radiation from the aesthetic.

@northernnarwhal I wish it never existed tbh, especially when Vaporwave, Witch House and PC Music are things

@rarity I actually got into a pretty compelling Twitter conversation the other day about the artistic merits or lack thereof in regards to vaporwave (my stance being things I felt made it culturally compelling).

@northernnarwhal you have to tell me how you feel about PC Music though

@rarity I need to listen to more of it, but I think what I've heard is certainly interesting. In practice it comes across as an art brut interpretation of contemporary pop and electronic music, both in terms of composition and presentation. It tends to ride the line between critical examination of the culture of pop music as well as a somewhat audacious parody of it, so there's a lot to unpack listening to it. I dunno if "enjoyable" is the right word, but it's definitely offering eclectic insights into music construction.

@northernnarwhal I think what's interesting about it is that you have to kind of listen to the lyrics to fully understand it, which goes against the very ethos of pop music. It's very easy to ignore them in a lot of the songs.

@rarity Yeah, there's definitely a much stronger lyrical focus in that regard. It's also interesting how there are small quirks in the production (like breaks and clips) that make the song sound not quite right without totally derailing it, so there's almost a sort of audio uncanny valley effect when you're listening to it.

@northernnarwhal I think it's because literally everything is at least slightly pitch shifted

@rarity That too, it always sounds a bit off key
