I find Iron Maiden's music really boring but I have to respect the band members. One of their phrases I saw the other day: "We wanted to be musicians, not drugaddicts"

@nerthos I was into them back in grade school when I went through a 70s/80s metal kick, but these days I'm not as into them. I still think Hallowed Be Thy Name is a pretty rad song though.
-
@narwhal I'm really into >90s metal, but only like a few 70s/80s songs of the genre. As far as Iron Maiden goes I think my favourite is Rainmaker.
-
@nerthos Yeah, I'm way more into 90s metal too, as well as a handful of 00s/10s metal bands.
-
@narwhal Any bands that you particularly like?
-
@nerthos Off the top of my head some of my favourite metal bands are Death, Maudlin of the Well, Mastodon, Sunn O))), Isis (very unfortunate name, this band https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isis_(band)), Altar of Plagues, Deafheaven and Nails
-
@narwhal Terrorists did to the name Isis what gay activists did to the rainbow.
c likes this. -
@nerthos I'd say The Dillinger Escape Plan are one of my favourites too cause I still love their music, but I wouldn't necessarily consider it metal so much as I'd say it's hardcore punk music that takes cues from metal music, same with guys like Converge and Protest the Hero.
-
@narwhal I'll have to check many of these.
-
@nerthos The bands I listed earlier cover a pretty wide range of metal subgenres too, so there's likely stuff you will and won't like
-
@nerthos @narwhal There's also the ISIS bottom bracket standard. http://ur1.ca/oo2i6
-
@nerthos @narwhal the rainbow is still kind of not gay though. A better comparison is the swastika
-
@takeappleakenji I feel bad for anything that happened to be using the name prior to this whole fiasco
