>People complaining because jail conditions are bad
That's the whole point of jail.Tuesday, 03-May-16 02:56:24 UTC from web-
@nerthos they're still humans...
prison is a punishment but its mostly for reformation -
@delores They're criminals but that's not the point. The point is that they aren't dying or anything, they're just not enjoying it. And they're not supposed to enjoy it. It's bad enough that they have a stupidly easy time leaving early or avoiding it altogether even when guilty, so at the very least make it bad for them.

@nerthos so the guy who gets arrested for holding a small amount of weed can suffer terribly because he's a criminal?
you're supposed to leave prison not wanting to commit crime. i can see how you'd think that if its terrible they wouldn't want to go back, but instead: they just won't want to be caught. which means more murder suicides -
@delores Prison is pointless as it is. It doesn't reform anything, they're idle inside, learning tricks from eachother, go out with no new work skills, and commit crimes again. It's just a terrible drain on taxpayer money. For prison to be useful it'd require forced labour and charging the criminal for room and food, as well as covering the indemnization to victims of his or her crime. What's left of the earnings after that, let the prisoner keep in a savings account until release so they have some money to live and they don't have to commit crime again, or send it to family, or spend it in better living conditions inside jail. A few years like that, with living conditions directly related to effort and efficiency in work, and the prisoner will be convinced working is the best way to have a steady and comfortable life. And what's better, after a bit it costs the state nothing.

@nerthos they do charge for food and room and they do force labor, at least in america
-
@delores I have no idea how it is in USA, I was talking about locally.
-
@nerthos Worse, we spend so much on that Potato Knishes here in the US. When I was in school I wrote papers on how things should be much different. Corrections is a joke.
