After looking at 8 rescue dogs and getting a puppy, who died after 2 days due to illness it got from mum, I am hoping to get guinea pigs.

Does anyone have guinea pigs and can recommend whether to get long or short hair, boys or girls?
-
@weerosie If you want to pet them a lot I can recommend short-haired ones, long haired ones just get messy a whole lot. Not to mention that when they inevitably do crawl up your sleeves its actually somewhat fun and not somewhat sandpaper. I speak from experience. It has been too long since I had a guinea pig ( not to mention the geographical difference ) where I can recommend a boy over a girl ( or vice versa ) though.

@critialcloudkicker Thanks for that. I was thinking about getting a long haired one, but that is a good point :) Did you keep yours outside?
-
@criticalcloudkicker I think the ones that look like they have "bed head" are the cutest. :)

@weerosie Inside, next to the couch overlooking the TV. I have many fond memories of giving pet-store-cracker-treats to my guinea-pig while slouching on the couch and watching cartoons. ... I do not think Dutch outside weather is really compattible with guinea-pigs if you want to pet them still. A problem which my Pigmy Rabbits did not seem to have at all. So it probably depends on the outside weather conditions a whole lot

@critialcloudkicker ... Ehmm, I meant the combination of weather conditions and kind/breed of animal.

@critialcloudkicker I'm planning on outside during the summer and inside for the winter, but to be inside in the evening for TV time. :)
