Several hours later... I think I found my new laptop (plus external BR/DVD/CD writer + bag from a different company): barebones, choosing options more from the high-end range, and (yes!) *without* Windows - until a few days ago I didn't even know such a critter existed! @expatpaul I need to replace my desktop (sometimes I call it my "mainframe") as well. At some point I got the idea that I might find a barebones machine, instead of the big box with mostly air in it I have now. Then when I search for "barebones PC", in the midst of them a single laptop from this company popped up. Left the browser tab open, and went to have a better look today - and got impressed :)

@expatpaul I called the shop to get some advice for what I had in mind. Got a lot (knowledgeable and very friendly) advice over a bad phone line. Now I need to think again (I'll pass the €1000 limit but would get a much faster and more comfortable laptop.... #laptop #barebones
