!vgp Spec Ops: The Line looks like another generic shooter. All the commercials make it look otherwise. I'm pretty torn.
Tuesday, 03-Jul-12 04:38:16 UTC from StatusNet Android-
@carcino The other "spec-ops" games played terribly.
-
@carcino Dude, they are commercials. Of course they are trying to make the game look better than it is.
-
@abigpony Wait, it's a sequel?
-
@wafers Call Of Duty doesn't, It's all guns and shooting.
-
@carcino Well they know people are going to buy it anyway.
-
@wafers I like to shoot things that are nothing more than reskinned enemies. As long as it's call of duty.
-
@carcino I prefer shooting something besides the same respawning enemies over and over and over again.
-
@wafers I love shooting the same guy.
-
@carcino It's a series, yeah. It's not a direct sequel or anything.
-
@abigpony Never heard of it.
-
@carcino I think the first one or two came out on original xbox or something.
-
@carcino Lol
-
@abigpony I only played like. House of the Dead on my Xbox.
-
@carcino I only played nothing on xbox because I hated original xbox
-
@abigpony Oh, I had Halo 1.
-
@abigpony And Ghost Recon. And
-
@carcino I didn't because I was busy playing Gamecube at that point in my life.
-
@carcino And... Jeez I don't know what I had. Oh, Voodoo Vince.
-
@abigpony I had all three of those consoles.
-
@carcino I had a PS2, but I never played it. I hate most PS2 games. I think my time was split between Super Mario Strikers, SSX: on tour, and Guitar hero 3. I still need to get guitar hero again.
-
@abigpony On my PS2 I had Alien Hominid, Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, Viewtiful Joe 2, Metal Arms (totally a game I recommend) and Guitar Heros 2 and 3.
-
@wafers Save the Earth was REALLY fun. I forgot about that one. Gotta find that again, too.
-
@carcino I had Kingdom Hearts 1, but it didn't have too much appeal to me.
-
@abigpony Speaking of which, I gotta buy that again to play on my 360. Man, I love that game.
-
@wafers Save the Earth? Is that on 360?
-
@abigpony No, but i'm pretty sure it is among the original xbox games you can play on 360.
-
@wafers We shall see.
-
@abigpony At least I HOPE so. I don't want to have to dust off the old xbox with its weird controller.
-
@wafers I think there are 360 styled controllers for the original xbox...
-
@techdisk42 *throws on pants and runs to nearest classic game store*
-
@wafers I know. The controller was just too odd for me to be attracted to it. I guess you could say the same about the gamecube.
-
@wafers GO FORTH AND BE A HAPPY CABBAGE
-
@abigpony The gamecube controller is also odd to me but I love it for some reason. Not as odd as the N64 controller.
-
@wafers Hey, the N64 controller had probably the best design I've seen. I'm not even joking.
-
@techdisk42 *wafers has assumed this form for now* http://claireshropshall.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/happy-cabbage.jpg
-
@wafers Same. I liked it. I never did learn how to properly hold the N64 controller.
-
@wafers The game cube controller is my absolute favourite to hold. ITS SO. DAMN. ERGONOMIC. i literally can sit for hours just holding a gamecube controller.
-
@redenchilada I do miss the blisters one would get from rotating the joystick for 10 years playing mario party.
-
@techdisk42 Whoa there, clean up your puddle, man.
-
@wafers Now, you must go forth!
-
@techdisk42 I do love the gamecube controller as well.
-
@abigpony Do you play clarinet? If not, SHUT YER MOUTH YOU MEDIOCRE CLARINET PLAYER.
-
@wafers Ok, the joystick had issues, but otherwise the design was superb.
-
@techdisk42 Call me stupid, but I don't get it.
-
@redenchilada and even then the joystick was the first of its kind. You couldnt expect anything TOO amazing.
-
@techdisk42 It's actually an interesting beast when you open it up and see how the mechanism works. :o
-
@abigpony Das fine. You dont need to.
-
@redenchilada i never had an N64... If i did though, the thing would be in peices already.
-
@techdisk42 Oh, but I DO need to.
-
@redenchilada i do remember not minding the controller at all when i played someone else's. As long as i didnt have to use the L button or the D-pad while im control sticking.
-
@abigpony Not caring if serious or not. Its from spongebob.
-
@techdisk42 Yeah, the controller was designed with the idea that you'd pick one or the other. Works out all the better for it, IMO.
-
@redenchilada True that! Its kinda like the wii remote and nunchuck. But mostly the nunchuck.
-
@techdisk42 I haven't seen spongebob in forever.
-
@techdisk42 The Wiimote and Nunchuck were designed for very specific kinds of games... ones I find myself playing less and less. :(
-
@redenchilada Yes. Though the nunchuck is practically a necissity for decent playing of any game on the wii. I hardly play my wii anymore. Though that might be because the novelty of my NES hasnt worn off.
-
@techdisk42 There are a few exceptions to it though. Super paper mario is amazing. No nunchuck.
-
@techdisk42 The remote by itself works decent enough for platformers, and the nunchuck helps with certain games, but the flooding of cheap gimmick games with motion control has kind of turned me off from most games that use it. And that's kinda the Wii's big selling point, y'know? :/
-
@redenchilada Very much so. It seems only nintendo makes any good usage of their system.
-
@redenchilada i mean, name one good wii game that ISNT made by nintendo.
-
@techdisk42 No More Heroes.
-
@techdisk42 NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams.
-
@redenchilada Lol... So, not MANY that make good use of the controls... (i need better games dammit)
-
@puzzlemint Oh but I do. Tell me of these innovations.
-
@carcino !vgp Instead of the typical "Buck yeah, American war hero!" storyline of most MMS games, Spec Ops takes the "War is hell" approach and really drives it home. || You are sent on what initially seems like a rescue mission, only to find yourself caught in an active war zone with no idea which side (if either) is "the bad guys", and having to defend yourself against both. || There are cutscenes -- perhaps a few more than strictly necessary -- to drive the story forward, but most of the story is told through in-game chatter between yourself and your teammates. || The game also allows you to make choices (with consequences) through the gameplay, rather than through any RPG-style dialogue. "Do I shoot this guy, or let him walk away?"; "Do I use this rocket launcher to clear the room of hostiles, or do I try to find another way around?"; "Do I go in guns blazing? oops, I just gunned down a civilian who was running for cover."
-
@puzzlemint @carcino !vgp In short, Spec Ops is a shades-of-grey style game that does its best to make you feel like crap. Which is refreshing, in a morbid kind of way.
-
@puzzlemint Oh fun.
