    2. @kzimmermann It's a system for federated chat rooms, both between two people and for large groups. Multiple implementations are available. I like it. The IRC bridges are an interesting innovation - they network specially with Freenode and others so that you can be on the network persistently, not just a nasty per-user bouncer.

        1. @kzimmermann Indeed, Riot's pretty polished, and they provide push notifications on their mobile apps at no cost which is pretty nice for an open source federated service. My homeserver is running synapse and it has a simple but functional web chat interface built into it. If you need a testing buddy feel free to message tom@karp.id.au :) (Won't be able to reply for ~6 hrs though)
