So apparently the antitank rifle on BF1 was in fact real

@awl It is, but IMO it's poorly implemented. Should be deployable on prone or on low walls as you're supposed to rely on the bipod to fire that kinda thing rather than shoulder fire it.

@nerthos yeah, also it was not in field until the very last few months. don't have a way to play it, but I've seen enough of it.

@awl They could get away with it like they did in the original battlefied 1942 expansion, but it'd still be really complicated to implement

@maiyannah Definitely. In sniper school they taught to take your time. In field school they taught you to be quick about taking your time.

@maiyannah haha, once we did SVRs with your usual rounds fired just resting on sandbags, just lacing into an old truck. That batcaveing hurt for months, namely for the fact that we weren't getting any time to recuperate

@maiyannah I got out close to a decade ago and like when I go out for hikes for longer than half-days I get memories flowing back. You sound like a vet yourself.

@nerthos I was braced against a wall, so not far. Probably actually why I hurt myself rather than just landing on my ass with my firearm some feet away, though.

@awl Police, not forces, but I did boot. Actually I ended up in police rather than forces as I didn't owe service and my dad freaked out when he found out I'd signed up (he himself was an veteran who got shipped back after being injured in a friendly fire incident, so...)

@maiyannah Ah that's a kiwity way, I mean getting sent back by being injured at all is. Hope he's doing ok by that though. And police... sounds like unless this was in your basic in the forces, you were in special action or something along the lines?

@awl Ended up running with Tactics unit a lot because of the military training, which is basically our much simpler-named version of what the US calls SWAT.

@awl It was. I still take some pride in having done that because I did some objectively good things back then, rather than just being another workaday person in the retail I was after I got "retired", or the writing I do now. But that's life for ya. It comes at ya fast, as they say.

@maiyannah I'm actually curious how you got into that with your condition, unless it didn't manifest strongly until later on.

@maiyannah Don't meet many people who have that kind of service under their belt and look bad on it with total disdain. My time in was pretty much the best I had also.

@nerthos Bingo. It didn't come on in a big way until I was abusive of myself some while later. I had a bad run of depression a couple years after I got out of policing feeling like the best years of my life were well behind me since I wouldnt be able to do that again and I was not kind to myself.

@awl Good time with good people doing good things. I miss it greatly, but with the whole 1.5 legs thing, I couldn't do it again now even if I wanted to.

@maiyannah Oh, that finally lets me make some sense of what you've told of your life. I had assumed you got retired because of it. Guess it's the classical "you're your worst enemy" thing.

@maiyannah Oh! that explains even more. I always thought it was something related to your medical conditions, but it's nice to know it was heroic instead.

@nerthos I got "retired" when I decided catching a shotgun shell in the knee was a good idea. I'd do it again though, considering in that situation I was putting myself between an assailaint and their prospective victim. It's that injury that appleed up my knee and eventually necessitated the amputation I had two years ago now.
