@nerthos @maiyannah Two consoles back it was the pirates providing brick protection from Nintendo's updates that were bricking the machines of innocent users.

@maiyannah Handmade microSD cards by Kyoto artisans...

@maiyannah How can you licence a Micro SD card anyway ?

@critialcloudkicker I think they meant Nintendo-branded and approved SD cards. There were Nintendo-Wii-branded SD cards but they were only slightly more expensive than normal AFAIK. I bought one for my soft-modded Wii because I had one cheap SD card but that wasn't recognized by the console for some reason.

@adiwan i hope they're not as expensive as Sony DS cards. I still have to buy one better than 8gigas for my vita. But it is not like i actually expect that to happen

@mushi I thought that they used their own "Memory Stick" format. Luckily there are microSD adaptors available.

@adiwan Oh it is THAT bullFrankerZ again >_< . Only this time around Sony is not around to say "it looks diffrent", Heck I even remember the adaptor's name by head, it was the PhotoFast CR-5400

@critialcloudkicker They usually introduce proprietary software to the microcontroller on the card, or change the internal pin assignments.
-
@maiyannah Can that even be called an "SD card" at that point then ? Might as well be a "Nintendo-innards speciality storage with SD card form factor"
