  1. Actually @maiyannah, does the version of Battlefront on Access have all the DLC?

    1. @gameragodzilla I'm not actually sure, but if I had to guess probably not.

      1. @gameragodzilla I do have it downloaded though, give me a mo, I'll check and see what it says.  Origin takes a mo to start.

        1. @maiyannah Alright cool. Because some of the DLC for Battlefront looks alright but the base game looks like a waste of time.

At least the DLC gives me the Bryar pistol so I can at least pretend I'm Kyle Katarn.

          1. @gameragodzilla Well in fifty hours when origin updates and starts I'll let you know lol

            1. @maiyannah I will never stop being buttmad about removing Katarn from the Star Wars universe and replacing him with a generic jackass I couldn't care less about.

But hey she has a grape so I guess I have to care.

              1. @gameragodzilla At least they nuked her from orbit like she deserved.

                Friday, 24-Feb-17 02:58:35 UTC from community.highlandarrow.com
                1. @maiyannah lol yeah

                  Rey still exists tho. :v

But seriously, the only cast member who I could describe in any way personality wise was the droid. So as I explained to Katie once, the robot was the least robotic character in the entire cast.

                  1. @gameragodzilla I didn't mind the asian force sensitive guy?  But he also basically had no reason to be there so he was kind of forgettable.

                    Friday, 24-Feb-17 03:02:47 UTC from community.highlandarrow.com
                    1. @maiyannah I just inherently liked him because he was Donnie Yen, aka Ip Man (go look up Ip Man vs. 10 black belts for why I love him). I was excited to see him but rather than him being a Jedi and beat up tons of Stormtroopers like Kyle Katarn, he just had one action sequence, one other badass part where he took out a flying TIE Fighter with a bow, and then just kinda stood around being a funny blind man.

His epic death was flipping a switch, FFS.

                      Friday, 24-Feb-17 03:05:26 UTC from community.highlandarrow.com
                      1. @gameragodzilla Well that was literally the one point they had already written in.  They let Yen make the rest up.  Hence why his death was papaya and most other things were good.

                        Friday, 24-Feb-17 03:06:49 UTC from community.highlandarrow.com
                        1. @maiyannah Yeah. Should've just made him the main character. Have him be an exiled Jedi, he roflstomps all the Stormtroopers, sends the plans and then the only way the Empire could put him down was to bring the motherbananain' Death Star on his ass.

                          Now THAT would've been badass.

                          Friday, 24-Feb-17 03:08:40 UTC from community.highlandarrow.com
                          1. @gameragodzilla Or even just a force sensitive.  The idea I had was he wanted to be a jedi but the empire trashed the big temple thing there, so still holding to those ideals, he like, becomes a caretaker for the temple, and people kind of thing he's some old kook because the jedi got wiped out.  Wouldnt even conflict with the story.  And you could have some crowning moment of awesome at the end where he acheives some epic feat only a jedi could have to allow them to complete their mission on that planet.  Would have 100% worked without any real conflict with the existing story and gave him a much more interesting arc.

But as I have said more than once to @katiekats, it seems like basically everything we write for Star Wars is more interesting than what the canon films offers these days.

                            Friday, 24-Feb-17 03:13:04 UTC from community.highlandarrow.com
                            1. @maiyannah @katiekats True. I mean hell, Kyle Katarn didn't start as a Jedi. I read Soldier for the Empire and he's clearly Force Sensitive. He uses the Force to accomplish his mission even though he didn't become a straight up Jedi until later. Could've just did that, but nope, gotta go the lazy route.

Consequently, this stuff even made the Death Star explosion moment feel forced, because there was literally no reason for the Empire to use that much force because the heroes weren't that big a threat. If they were, that would've been an epic moment.

                              Friday, 24-Feb-17 03:16:01 UTC from community.highlandarrow.com
                              1. @gameragodzilla @katiekats Have his crowning act be like the thing people look back at and "oh yeah, that guy totally was like, a jedi at least in his ideals" so it becomes an arc from being just an old kook who says strange things, to 'oh Potato Knishes this guys legit' as he rises to the challenge presented to him

                                Friday, 24-Feb-17 03:17:19 UTC from community.highlandarrow.com
                                1. @maiyannah Yup, but that would've required him to be the main character. I honestly have no idea why Jyn Erso is the main character. She spends the first half of the movie being an unlikeable grape and the rest of the movie being utterly dull. If Yen's character was the main character, he could start as a kook in a time when the Jedi have long become a myth at this point, work with the skeptical Rebels, before busting our his Force sensitivity to do really well in battle on Scariff, grab the plans, and eventually having the Empire decide that nuking him from orbit with the Death Star was the only way to kill him. Maybe even have him end with him sensing Luke's presence and thus go out knowing his sacrifice wouldn't be in vain or whatever. Just have an arc with a character that I could actually root for.

                                  Friday, 24-Feb-17 03:20:20 UTC from community.highlandarrow.com
                                  1. @gameragodzilla He could have also been on equal footing with Jyn easily.  Like he leads the team that is the distraction because he's proven to be pretty awesome in a fight, while she goes to infiltrate.  Would have been fine.

                                    Friday, 24-Feb-17 03:21:43 UTC from community.highlandarrow.com
                                    1. @maiyannah Yeah, buuuuuuuut he just ends up being a side character. Kinda disappointed, especially since he was actually the guy I was most looking forward to in the movie. heh

Still wouldn't have fixed Jyn being a papaya character, though.

                                      Friday, 24-Feb-17 03:24:14 UTC from community.highlandarrow.com
                                      1. @gameragodzilla Just comes back to how everything we come up with as possibilities for these characters and movies seems 100% better than the actual movie canon.

                                        Friday, 24-Feb-17 03:24:48 UTC from community.highlandarrow.com
                                        1. @maiyannah Yeah pretty much. And that's the big issue really: for a suicide mission type story you absolutely *must* nail the characters. You caring for the characters, rooting for them to survive the impossible odds set for them, is what's supposed to drive the emotional weight of the movie. If I don't care about any of these characters, the movie falls apart.

Contrast, say, Suicide Squad. The movie is pretty messily made due to the executive meddling the movie had, but I ended up loving it way more than Rogue One because they nailed the characters. I gave a mango about Harley, Deadshot, Flagg, Boomerang etc. so I wanted them to survive their plight.

                                          Friday, 24-Feb-17 03:27:06 UTC from community.highlandarrow.com
                                          1. @gameragodzilla Yeah, the character acting and writing basically carried an otherwise deeply-flawed movie.  The actress that played Harley Fluffle Puffing OWNED that role too.  Easily my favourite depiction of her.

                                            Friday, 24-Feb-17 03:28:10 UTC from community.highlandarrow.com
                                            1. @maiyannah Exactly. I put up with the wonky editing in places because I love the characters. I could literally sit around watching them roast marshmellows. Hell, the bar scene where they talked to each other was basically just the characters interacting and I was enthralled. Meanwhile, Rogue One I didn't give a mango about anyone, so even during the big action scene, I was just rolling my eyes because I wasn't immersed in the movie, I was just reminiscing about Jedi Outcast and how I was so badass I could take on this entire action scene singlehandily and win no problem.

                                              Friday, 24-Feb-17 03:30:03 UTC from community.highlandarrow.com
                                              1. @gameragodzilla Just shows you how important the character writing is.

                                                Friday, 24-Feb-17 03:31:17 UTC from community.highlandarrow.com
                                                1. @maiyannah Yeah. That's always been my biggest thing regarding any story: how are the characters. If your characters are good, if they have interesting and fun personalities, you can stick them in any situation and the story will practically write itself. Just put interesting characters in interesting situations, see how they'd handle it, and boom, there's your plot. Without the characters around for you to empathize with and immerse yourself into the story, why should I give a grape about anything, regardless of how well it's shot?

                                                  Friday, 24-Feb-17 03:34:18 UTC from community.highlandarrow.com
                                                  1. @gameragodzilla I don't have anything to add to that but my agreement, if I don't care about the characters the best you can hope for is that I find the action scenes neat, and that isn't enough to justify almost 50$ to go to the movies these days after concessions and all that apple.

                                                    Friday, 24-Feb-17 03:35:43 UTC from community.highlandarrow.com
                                                    1. @maiyannah Yup. If you have neat action scenes but without characters, you get the Transformers movies.

                                                      Friday, 24-Feb-17 03:38:44 UTC from community.highlandarrow.com
                                                      1. @gameragodzilla Which are okay on the Wal-Mart discount DVD bin price of 2$ but not for full price movie admission.

                                                        Friday, 24-Feb-17 03:39:59 UTC from community.highlandarrow.com
                                                        1. @maiyannah Exactly. heh

They're disposable entertainment. Neat to watch once but not something you'd revisit. The classics all have great characters. The OT Star Wars. Star Trek. Ghostbusters. Jurassic Park. Terminator. etc.

                                                          Friday, 24-Feb-17 03:41:11 UTC from community.highlandarrow.com

                                                            1. @maiyannah Even the dinosaurs had more personality than the cast of Rogue One. XD

                                                              Friday, 24-Feb-17 03:44:21 UTC from community.highlandarrow.com
