  1. "On the 90th anniversary of her independence Finland has the world's fastest ageing population. The Baby Boomers are retiring, and the lengthened life expectancy will increase the size of the elderly population in the coming years. The effects from the population development that has gone on for decades are now becoming visible: because the fertility rate has already stayed below the reproduction rate for a generation, more people are exiting working age than entering it. The diminished supply of labour will inadvertently lead to labour shortage. As matters stand, the shortage of labour can only be solved by attracting labour from abroad. Otherwise the inescapable consequences will be reduced labour force and declining economy. There will not be enough tax payers to sustain the rapidly rising number of pensioners. The growth in the number of elderly people not only means risen pension expenditure but also increased need for health care and other se

        1. @dokidoki yeah declining population wouldn't be an issue without a massive social security system, and without it people would rather get more kids to take care of them in the future atleast in theory, but I also think western world probably has more factors than that that contribute to the low birth rates, a lot of which are cultural

          1. @shpuld The cult of "fun and pleasure." Sex ed and the encouragement of needless appleing. The growing want to make life be 100% fun without any responsibilities and things to tie one down as well.

I like the idea of having kids but just don't see it happening unless things somehow fall in place

                1. Problem #: convincing perfectly normal, imperfect people that they can have kids. They don't require some amazing skillset to raise. Just some time and effort. @takepapayaakenji @shpuld @dokidoki

Sounds like it would encourage the wrong people to believe that they can have kids, and even the whole package. If you want to raise kids properly then it takes more than time and effort. It's a lot of responsibility. Is it any wonder that we have so many Fluffle Puffed up people?

                    1. Yes, of course. How could anyone raise children without expert help? Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Ben Franklin... what despicable people. How poor and unskilled their rearing was. @sim @shpuld @dokidoki @takecherryakenji

It's easy to bring children into the world, and then mostly leave them to figuring out how to survive after maybe providing a few basic things. A lot of people are born into the world, but not raised properly. Then we wonder why so many people have health problems. Also, no one can do it all. You can't expect to raise a child well when you are both too busy with jobs, for example. One is sacrificed for the other. You can't reduce raising kids properly to just some time and effort. That would leave those kids at a disadvantage in life.

I also think that if someone is telling you that they don't think they are ready to commit to raising a child, and that they don't want to Potato Knishes up a child's life like they've been appleed up or because they are cherryed up... they are probably right, and not yet ready to raise a child. They are thinking this with good reason. I don't think you should be telling them that it is okay to raise a child as they are, but rather to help them reach a point where they can raise a child should they want to. Perhaps even help them to improve their own health and find ways to cope if that is something they accept from you. There is a lot that goes into raising children as it is, and having mental health problems of your own doesn't help anyone involved.

Apparently no different to when you misrepresented my own position. All I've heard you say is that it takes some time and effort, as if this is all there is to raising kids. I was making another point about how people think they can do it all... even with a job, there is still some time and effort at the end of the day for kids. But that just leaves the kids to raise themselves for the rest of the day, or have someone else raise them which is not ideal.
