Wednesday, 01-Aug-12 13:01:51 UTC from web
          1. @minti I had one of those. Then, I got a Sony Experia Mini Pro, (I think x3) and then this HTC-wildfire. It might be better than yours, but it's still bad x3

Wednesday, 01-Aug-12 13:03:22 UTC from MuSTArDroid
        3. @derpyshy Neither could my Samsung Galaxy Gio. Then I rooted it. Now it works fine. Still, I'm planning on trying Firefox OS when it comes out in 2013, and GNOME OS when it comes out in 2014. Perhaps that'll be more interesting for me. I already tried the KDE tablet OS, but it just flat-out sucks.

Wednesday, 01-Aug-12 13:39:36 UTC from web
          1. @omni Your going to need a better phone if your going to use FoxOS. :L

            1. @xxyyxx There are this things like "Virtual Machines", I'll try it in one of those first before wasting my money on an expensive device (even though Firefox OS is going to be put on relatively cheap phones in Brazil at launch).

Wednesday, 01-Aug-12 13:48:28 UTC from web
                1. @xxyyxx I'm only slightly interested in that, really, I've grown over Ubuntu, I need something more tweakable and less... crash-prone. Then again, is that released already? I thought they only had a beta of Ubuntu for Android, not Ubuntu Mobile.

Wednesday, 01-Aug-12 13:50:15 UTC from web
                  1. @omni I think its the beta. I also found Andrinux.

                1. @omni It's been available for quite a long time already.

              3. @omni The concept behind Firefox OS fills me with incredible rage.

Wednesday, 01-Aug-12 14:01:08 UTC from web
                1. @toksyuryel What's wrong with HTML5 everywhere? Cross-platform-compatibility and all, sounds pretty good to me.

Wednesday, 01-Aug-12 14:02:00 UTC from web
                  1. @omni Because HTML is a terrible, terrible thing that needs to be replaced with something actually sane not made even more entrenched.

Wednesday, 01-Aug-12 14:03:06 UTC from web
                  2. @omni And I don't even want to think about trying to write actual programs with it. HTML5 et al is not some magical thing that solves every problem. It doesn't even solve the problems it's designed to solve.

Wednesday, 01-Aug-12 14:04:35 UTC from web
                    1. @toksyuryel Writing software in HTML5 isn't even all that bad, it's just like building a house without actual stones. And Firefox adds APIs to it to actually do something, well, relatively useful. At any rate, people don't use their phones for serious stuff anyway, they use it to play Angry Birds when on the toilet and chatting with friends, something which HTML5 can achieve :P Well, what about GNOME OS then?

Wednesday, 01-Aug-12 14:07:28 UTC from web
                      1. @omni I'm no fan of GNOME but at least it's an actual OS.

Wednesday, 01-Aug-12 14:10:10 UTC from web
                      2. @omni It is largely a problem of syntax. Even the best formatted HTML is difficult for me to easily comprehend at a glance and I've spent more years working with it than anything else. We have much cleaner markup languages than HTML, and we have much cleaner programming languages. I wish we would use them more.

Wednesday, 01-Aug-12 14:13:58 UTC from web
          3. @omni well, that phone is better than mine

    4. @thepavilionman hehe

Wednesday, 01-Aug-12 13:21:56 UTC from MuSTArDroid
    5. @darkw00d I prefer to do programming with a language that's actually designed for it and therefore tries to make the programming-related tasks comparatively easy. There's no reason other than inertia why this couldn't be adapted to the web, it just needs somebody with vision and enough time to work on it. I am presently lacking in the time department (in hindsight I've had plenty of it, but I couldn't see the future then and still can't now)

Wednesday, 01-Aug-12 14:09:26 UTC from web
    6. @darkw00d The thing is, none of the stuff HTML5 does is actually new. Flash could have been replaced years ago already just by using a combination of SVG and scripting (which is just as hackish, and I'm not suggesting it as an alternative to HTML5). HTML5 simply made a lot of noise and woke people up to the fact that there's actually other ways to make a browser do the things flash does without using flash. HTML5 does make a lot of it easier, but only by comparison to other markup languages. It's still going to lose against almost any programming language.

Wednesday, 01-Aug-12 14:18:14 UTC from web
    7. @darkw00d Basic programming can do more than Flash and HTML do, especially because HTML is just a markup language, not a programming language (not sure what Flash is). At any rate, I'm happy with HTML5 due to its cross-platform-compatibility, but I agree with whatever @toksyuryel will say (he's smart and I know he'll say something that won't force me to use a crappy OS :P)

Wednesday, 01-Aug-12 14:22:58 UTC from web
      1. @omni I would advise against blindly agreeing with anything I say, as I have been wrong plenty of times in the past. You should form your own opinions based on your own research and experience ☺

Wednesday, 01-Aug-12 14:28:05 UTC from web
    8. @darkw00d I've tossed a lot of ideas around over the years, but never really settled on anything for lack of time to actually work on it. But I'd definitely like to see some sort of lightweight markup language emerge that also incorporates a full programming language into it (I am biased towards it being Python here, naturally, but any sufficiently sane programming language will do).

Wednesday, 01-Aug-12 14:24:43 UTC from web
    9. @darkw00d Because that would take effort, and who wants to do that?

Wednesday, 01-Aug-12 14:29:19 UTC from web
    10. @darkw00d Also, >implying corporations have ANY clue as to what they're doing

Wednesday, 01-Aug-12 14:34:18 UTC from web
      1. @toksyuryel Reminds me of this company who wanted me to make an Android app using XNA.

Wednesday, 01-Aug-12 14:36:46 UTC from web
    11. @darkw00d A lightweight markup language that is also a programming language would be like a dream to me. Unfortunately I have many dreams and this one's kinda been taking a backseat for years now. If you want to pursue it though, have yourself a look at Evas and Edje from the Enlightenment Foundation Libraries. That's a pretty good starting point to understanding the kinds of things that are possible. Then have a look at markdown and restructured text to see some lightweight markup languages, and check out python 3 to see a really well-designed programming language. From there, think about what it might look like to combine all of these things, and you'll be at about where I would be if I hadn't gotten sidetracked.

Wednesday, 01-Aug-12 14:39:48 UTC from web
    12. @darkw00d Google suffers from a loss of perspective. Their customer base numbers in the billions, so even a product that attracts hundreds of millions looks like a failure to them. This makes it hard for them to guage when something is actually working or not, which has resulted in them shutting down many projects that had so much potential.

Wednesday, 01-Aug-12 14:42:23 UTC from web
    13. @darkw00d I should still learn HTML5, because in all likelihood we're going to be stuck with it for at least a decade.

Wednesday, 01-Aug-12 14:48:49 UTC from web
      1. @toksyuryel @darkw00d Did I really say "I should" there? I could have sworn I said "You should"… well, I meant "You should". Of course, I should as well, but that goes without saying.
