@drpiranha Ooooh, lucky. I've never been out of the US...except for this deployment. So I guess I have now. I'll have to get a passport when I get back so I can see some of my international friends.

@drpiranha Linguists can make a lot of money, especially if you're very good in the languages you know. It's even better if you know a language the military needs at the moment.

@communistprime @drpiranha A Pashto/Dari linguist can pull six digits... as a civilian! If you go military you'll get the same weak pay as anyone else. Sign up for as short an enlistment as they offer, and you'll spend pretty much the whole time in Monterey. Maybe try and get a deployment in to get some field experience. Then, get the heck out and make some real money.

@drpiranha Languages from that part of the world are important right now, for obvious reasons. I find them hard to learn though...but I also have a hard time with languages in general. I blame my short memory.

@communistprime Even the cyrillic alphabet can be hard for me at times. However, Sanskrit and Hindi don't seem that hard; draw a straight line, and add some fancy curls around it.
