@darkw00d Chromebooks are absolutely a waste of money, so don't even bother. If this device is going to be your main computer, definitely get the laptop. If it's just a secondary for browsing on the couch or taking basic notes in classes, the tablet is probably the better choice.

@darkw00d What about Linux? It's completely free and Ubuntu and Linux Mint have been considered relatively beginner-friendly. You should definitely give them a try, perhaps you like it more than Windows (and, depending on where you buy it, you may be able to save a fair amount of money by ordering the laptop without OS and putting Linux on it yourself if you burn an installation CD, which also saves you from getting "Laptop Company Registry Optimizer 2000" and "Laptop Company QuickBoot" and similar junk pre-installed).\

@darkw00d I use an iPad with a keyboard as my casual browser/office notetaking device and it works amazingly well for that. I can't see any reason for an android device to perform the same tasks any worse

@darkw00d So what's happened since i've been gone?

@darkw00d If you do go the tablet route, make sure you get one that's actually going to receive software updates in future. A nexus 7 with a keyboard case would be a very solid choice, but the nexus 7 might be too small for you (7 inch screen) and they're very difficult to get hold of.

@darkw00d Which software do you use on Windows? I watch Linux news quite closely so if it's coming to Linux soon I know that, or I'll probably know a decent alternative. Or, well, @ceruleanspark probably has better arguments for a tablet. Laptop advice from me is bad anyway, because I never had a laptop (and can't decide which laptop to buy either).

@darkw00d get linux. According to all it's users, it's flawless and perfect and the easiest thing to install and any problem that does arise from it is windows users faults.
