     @bitshift hummm... you might be on to something... I wonder the repercussions of me doing that... welcomepony uses user ID for tracking , but name for promotion demotion... I wonder how the transition is done

     @minti You can look up a user profile from the API with either a name or an ID. From the profile you get back, you can find out the one you didn't know yet. (So in this case, it takes the name provided, and looks up what the user ID is of the user currently using that name.)
