  1. Hey... I'm Fluttershy. I saw this site and made an account. I hope you don't mind...

    1. @mostapplethingofall That's raw SQL data, apparently.

      1. @purple and all RDN data is stored safely on a 5 year-old 10 disk RAID 0 array

        1. @nlghtmaremoon Fragmentation, not redundancy. :p

    2. @mostapplethingofall 3gb? I expected about 80% to be honest. ^_^

    3. @mostapplethingofall the one that is a simple striped volume.. gives most space and speed, but is VERY dangerous... All a pun of coarse.

      1. @nlghtmaremoon Oh Raid 0 is the striping one. Never mind about the fragmentation thing! xD

    4. @mostapplethingofall the more disks the scarier the array, EX. a 10 disk array if any of the 10 disks die the whole array will fail.

    5. @mostapplethingofall Yep! its super cool on SSD's as reliability is not a problem, and data is striped across all 10 disks, so data can be read, and written simultaneity across the 10 disks

      1. @nlghtmaremoon Ew, SSDs. Extremely expensive, low capacity, and little lifespan.

          1. @redenchilada That's what WD Velociraptors are for.

Wednesday, 22-Aug-12 06:21:31 UTC from web
            1. @nerthos I wasn't seriously recommending them for anything. :p That's what the tildes and CrAzY cApS were for.

              1. @redenchilada Yeah, I know. You're not dumb.

                1. @nerthos I'm not? *insert shocking revelation here*

                  1. @redenchilada Hey, you're in the brightest quarter of the site.

              2. @redenchilada I mean, SSDs are the computer hardware equivalent to what flare launchers are for mall ninjas.

    6. @mostapplethingofall raid 1 is a "mirror" and very safe, but you only get 1/2 the size ex. a 2 disk array 1tb each will only give 1tb.

    7. @mostapplethingofall RAID 5 is good, as you set up 4 drives, 3 striped, with parity. you get 3/4 the space and can loose any one drive... the prob is raid 5 now sucks, as raid 5 arrays take time to rebuild after a drive failure, and the stats are like 50% chance of a second drive dropping during rebuild on a large drive array (ex 2tb)
