  1. Banished is a very beautiful game, when it doesn’t crash every 20 minutes.

    1. This time I got a very nice map seed – mountain terrain, but with big ridges and wide planes. And it had a nice river view (to be posted soon!). I was in love with this small patch of land. https://gs.smuglo.li/attachment/978293

      2. At the early stage you must always think 360° around your settlement. If you settle on a riverbank, resources on the other shore will be inaccessible, until you build a bridge.

Well, you can send people to gather them, but they’ll most probably give up on trying to walk around it and die of hunger on the way back.

I called the bridge on the picture ‘The road of Life’, because without it I wouldn’t hold long. But I forgot how imbalanced the game is, and that without knowing some tricks your people will starve, die to cold or just your wrong micromanagement.

        1. Long story short, once upon a winter the village has died out, leaving only 4 adults and a couple of children. Seeing the close end, I decided to build a cemetery.

Soon only two men left – always happy Jovanny and grumpy Parke. They were like an Italian and a Finn. They lived together more years, then before the famine, and no troubles befall upon them ever since, but that didn’t change Parke’s attitude. He often returned to the cemetery – that he himself has built – and stood there, while Jovanny ran around with a cheerful smile. They ate only fish, so to provide some variety to the table, Jovanny sometimes replaced a hunter. Or worked as herbalist, when Parke got tired of it and pushed Jovanny from the fishing dock.

The end was predictable, so I stopped their existence before they would turn gay. https://gs.smuglo.li/attachment/978403

          1. Next time I decided to build compactly and stay within river bounds for the first 3–5 years. Make all paths as short as possible and focus on optimised food production (damn imba gatherer works magic + fishing dock on the river cross). It worked.  https://gs.smuglo.li/attachment/978456 https://gs.smuglo.li/attachment/978461
