@derpyshy That's his choice, I guess. Even though I still haven't heard anything really positive about Mac, I won't bash a platform I haven't tried.
-
@omni I know it is his choice :P But the reason he has it isn't because of the things that mac can do, it's because it's made by Apple x.x
-
@derpyshy If he wants to pay more without special benefit that's his choice, I prefer to get more by paying less :P
-
@omni Same :p I told him that Linux is very good. He said "Linux is for servers". I said that Linux is good for a lot of other things, he said that "Windows has better compatibility" x.x
-
@derpyshy Seeing how much more software gets completely broken when switching between XP / Vista / 7 / 8 compared to switching Linux versions and how much hardware works out-of-the-box on Linux I'd say that Linux would generally have better compatibility, but seeing how far drivers can bring you under Windows (as long as you don't switch Windows version too often) I guess this can be discussed.
-
@omni It sounds like what the friend was trying to say is "more programs are made available on Windows than on other operating systems"
Sunday, 16-Sep-12 22:48:43 UTC from web-
@redenchilada Probably. I'm not sure if that's completely true, though, but I don't expect any definite proof either way (as both platforms will surely have millions of programs available).
-
-
@omni Hmm... I guess :/ But why discuss, when you know Linux is the best? :P
-
@derpyshy Because if you believe your product is the best without looking at the competition and working hard, it will quickly become the worst.
-
@omni *was joking* x.x
-
@derpyshy One day, I will give you a semi-destructive command :P
-
@omni I have a feeling that I will become better than you at Linux, and then you will tell me that to get revenge...
-
@derpyshy You? Better than me? Never (assuming the world still ends this year)
-
@omni Hah! Just you wait! sudo apt-get install windows. sudo rc file-transfer windows sp- omni gen.crash
-
@derpyshy THAT'S NOT HOW A COMPUTER WORKS
-
@omni rd. sudo fc- cd-/ delete-brain omni
-
-
@derpyshy On a side note, "cat /dev/random >> "passwd.lst" makes for a pretty terrible random password generator.
-
@omni Hmm... what would you do with a random password-generator?
-
@derpyshy Generate random passwords, I assume.

@bitshift What would you do with a random password? .-.
-
@derpyshy Use it for yourself
Sunday, 16-Sep-12 23:11:04 UTC from web -
@derpyshy Use it as a password.

@minti Ah. "sudo" = "Simon says"

@derpyshy Super User DO.

@omni //That's my point :P
-
@derpyshy That reminds me, I should finish my extremely cross-platform-compatible game :(
-
@omni Why the sadface?
-
@omni Also... Shouldn't you be getting to bed?
-
@derpyshy I'm in bed, but RDN is distracting me :(

@minti You've all been in my bed all day. #suchaproductivelifeIlead
Sunday, 16-Sep-12 23:26:27 UTC from web -
@minti Sharing a bed with me sucks. If you're my owner, you get cuddled to death, otherwise you'll be stared at until you fall asleep because, after what a certain guy did, I don't trust anyone close to me while asleep or close to sleep anymore :(

@minti Is that actually a standard make command or did you modify it? Also, why didn't you use "sudo !!"?

-
@minti I know XKCD, "sudo !!" would've still been faster, though :P
-
@omni Still. XD

@derpyshy On the upside, your Linux knowledge AT SOME POINTS works for Macs as well (though more often than not it won't)
-
@omni *Evil laughter*
-
@derpyshy I guess "rm -rf / --no-preserve-root" will still break his system, for example :P
-
@omni Oh cool, I wonder if I can do that on MY system aswell!
-
@derpyshy You may want to unmount your Windows drive first, to make sure it doesn't delete everything there. Also, you shouldn't be surprised if your system won't boot anymore (as you'll also delete your bootloader).
-
@omni Sorry, can't read. My PC is deleting itself.
-
@derpyshy Of course you can read it, as programs loaded into the memory won't close, you just can't open them anymore. Also, Ctrl+C
-
@omni I need to read up more on POSIX. I'm familiar with how windows works, and how .exe, .dll, and .lib files work and are loaded into memory etc. But Linux's file formats are a complete mystery to me. xD
Sunday, 16-Sep-12 22:56:14 UTC from web-
@minti The clearest difference is that Windows won't let you mess around with files in use and Linux will, but will only "refresh" it when you open it again, but I'm sure you already know all of that :P (Did I seem knowledgeable by not answering your question? Should I go into politics?)
-
@omni XD Actually I didn't know that till you mentioned it earlier. I should go run gdb and mess with it.
Sunday, 16-Sep-12 23:00:30 UTC from web-
@minti So you never wondered how you could update software without closing it? o,o

@omni ... true XD

@widget Ubuntu has always had way too small repositories for my taste :(
-
@widget Well, it already seemed likely it would work (sudo <command> with no other parameters, as root, just makes you stay as root), but I decided to try it anyway. And it did. :3
