@ceruleanspark Okay. I can wait for Widget. In the meantime, is this the type of service we are looking into...? Because... dem prices... http://nginx.com/support.html

@dlcentaur Nginx is free. That's for actual support from the company or something. Put it this way: The current server we're on only costs us the price of the server itself. Everything else is basically free.
-
@minti Aha. That's good. How can I use it, then? Like, where do I have to go to actually get it and set it up? o_o
-
@dlcentaur On the server you just run the command "sudo apt-get install nginx", and done. :p
-
@minti Huh. That's a heck of a lot more simple than I thought. xD
-
@dlcentaur Having a decent server to run the command on is the hardest part.
-
@dlcentaur Yep, linux has a nice thing called a package manager. Basically you can install almost any program using a single command xD And all of them are free.
-
@dlcentaur So the main thing right now is getting a server to host everything on, and getting a domain to point at the server. ;p Everything after that is honestly just finding a sysadmin to set everything up.
-
@eaglehooves @minti Woah... so now the issue is finding a good server. The levels of importance for this server are in this order #1 Must allow us to run smoothly, and provide an ample amount of room for growth. #2 Should be somewhat inexpensive (though Pricing isn't the main issue at all)
-
@minti That's another issue... finding a reliable, available, knowledgable sysadmin. I mean, I could set it up if you guys run me through how to do it... but I don't actually know how to do anything, should a problem arise.
-
@dlcentaur No one on RP uses Linux at all? It's not very hard to learn if you're tech-savvy. I actually learned most of what I know about sysadmining this year xD
-
@minti Well, Honeywing is Technically knowledgable and trustworthy. The problem with him is his availability.
-
@dlcentaur I can do a little, but you probably want to talk to one of the !coderponies
-
@eaglehooves Hmm... not a bad idea...
-
@dlcentaur Much like @eaglehooves and @minti, I'll definitely be around at some points if you need to ask something in an emergency, but I'm not likely to be able to help on a regular basis. (And even if I were available, I'm not good enough to actually get StatusNet running properly.)
-
@dlcentaur It'll be the same with every sysadmin. It's something they do on their free time, not as a job. xP I'd honestly offer to do it for you, but I have a track record of being unreliable xD
-
@bitshift Thanks, bro. Even the slightest amount of help is needed and appreciated. :)
-
@minti Oh, come now. I can't believe that you're as unreliable as all that. You've been a great help to this site, and I've never seen you abandon your posts or duties. xP
-
@dlcentaur Hey, the track record doesn't lie. :p I speak only of the truth. xD
-
@dlcentaur No, he's telling the truth, the only reason he even does anything around here is because of the shock collar.

@minti I suppose I'll just have to ask Widget and Cerulean, and see what they say.~
-
@colfax Hey, how did you know about that. Unless.. you're the one controlling it all along. O_o;;
RDN's Lucifer likes this. -
@colfax Speaking hypothetically, where might a prospective employer obtain one of those to... incentivize his employees?
-
@minti No, but I did give the remote to a two year old to play with.
-
@minti Hey, Colfax knows everything. He always did.
-
@colfax ;___;
-
@gladosenchilada I know everything, I just can't remember it all at once.
... likes this. -
@bitshift They have to be custom made, you just get the ones meant for dogs and set them up to work off a remote trigger.
-
@colfax And carrying a camera makes the interesting stuff not happen.
