    1. @ceruleanspark Let me put it this way: **** American copyright. If I buy a product, I want to use it. Really, anyone protecting the copyright system has no idea what it really means. I'd rather go full Richard Stallman than completely live by the American copyright law.

      1. @omni Well, in England we did really well for a while. We had an investigation, found all the ways technology had outpaced the law, and we were going to overhaul copyright in a consumer friendly manner, legalise format shifting, demand providers actually make content available legally and without onerous restriction before they're allowed to threaten people, etc. Then suddenly and totally mysteriously, the guy in charge of the comitee was fired, and replaced with someone else, who, the day after having dinner with some recording industry execs, tore up everything and tried to force "3 strikes and you're banned from the net" through parliament.

        1. @ceruleanspark "Democracy" is a synonym for "hidden dictatorship". I really don't trust this whole "democracy" thing.

            1. @toksyuryel I really, honestly can't think of a single moment in which the opinion of the public is really counted and no rich lobbyists or other "undemocratic" practices ruin everything. I literally can't.

              1. @omni Corruption is a thing that doesn't stop existing no matter what system you implement- even if you implement no system at all.

                1. @toksyuryel What are you disagreeing with, exactly? My choice of words? Should I have said "we're not living in a true democracy" instead?

                  1. @omni That would have been an improvement, yes.
