      @diamonddragon Communism, when properly implemented with added incentives for people in a way of status, not stuff they own, is actually a pretty fair system. It does have its flaws, of course, but it isn't the pure-evil America tried to make it out to be in the Cold War.

        @omni You're thinking of Socialism. Communism actually is pretty bad. The two are often treated like they are the same thing but they are actually quite different.

            @omni Under communism, everything is for the benefit of the state. The state is more important than anyone in it. The idea is that if the state is doing well, then the people in it must also be doing well (if this sounds just like "trickle-down economics" to you, then you should be able to understand why this doesn't actually work). Socialism is for the benefit of the people- if the people are doing well, then the state will also do well.

                @omni It affects what you focus on and how much effort you put into which side of things. Under communism, it doesn't matter if people are unhappy and miserable as long as the state is doing well, whereas under socialism improving the lives of the people is always relevant. Socialism respects the lives of the people- Communism treats them as mere cogs in the machine that is the state.
