  1. YouTube has decided to default the quality as low as possible on every video now. I wish there was an option to just tell it to always use the highest available quality. The best I can do is tell it to guess from my connection speed, but it always guesses wrong =/

    1. @toksyuryel Isn't there a connection test video you can use to view the data it's using to draw its conclusions? Maybe your nearest youtube node is screwing up or something

      1. @ceruleanspark If there is I've never heard of it before now. Can you point me to it?

        1. @toksyuryel http://www.youtube.com/my_speed# should be it, but I'm not seeing the data I used to.

          1. @ceruleanspark "Your average video speed at this location from Oct 10, 2012 to Nov 7, 2012 was 24.96 Mbps."

            1. @toksyuryel At the bottom there's an option to display a "test video", which used to be overlayed with things like which youtube edge-cache you were hitting and what your real time transfer rates were. That's not working for me here though, so maybe they've done away with it.

              1. @ceruleanspark Because lately, google seems to be all about getting rid of things which are useful in favour of a "Megacorp knows best" approach.

              2. @ceruleanspark The test video plays but I'm not seeing an overlay ☹

                1. @toksyuryel @ceruleanspark Try tight clicking on the video and selecting Show Video Info.

                  1. @colfax That appears to have sorta worked. I'm getting an overlay now but it still doesn't have the information that the page says it's supposed to have. However I noticed another option in that right-click menu, "take speed test". I am going to give that a try now.

                    1. @toksyuryel That just brings you back to the same page.
