Ideally when my boss asks me how my day was I probably shouldn't mention that I'm gonna kill someone.
-
@ceruleanspark That's generally discouraged if you want job security.

@xeleanorxrigbyx @greenenchilada You guys don't light heartedly claim you're going to strangle someone?
-
@ceruleanspark I prefer subtle mental torture. /pulls blindbags out of backpack one-at-a-time while anti-pony classmates are nearby

@ceruleanspark No, I usually make it more graphic.

@ceruleanspark "My day was terrible except for the part where I spent it on a My Little Pony fansite"

@redenchilada When the workload gets heavy I disappear from here to concentrate on it. Today involved a lot of downloading and watching progress bars so I had the time.
-
@ceruleanspark I love watching progress bars! No, really, I do. I'm not joking.

@omni I prefer stupid-looking graphics to indicate the loadingness of things. Heck, I replaced the standard Win7 boot screen with a pony.
Monday, 19-Nov-12 17:42:04 UTC from web-
@redenchilada But... how does it actually show progress? I hate it when it just shows "loading" without progress. Like when I boot up my Android and NAWOEBNEAOUBNERAUBNerao
Monday, 19-Nov-12 17:44:13 UTC from web-
@omni It shows progress in binary. "Not loaded" is shown as a graphic, and "Loaded" is shown as the thing appearing and being usable.

@redenchilada In other words: "I'm trying to use fancy words to make Omni feel stupid about the way he said what he said while pretty much clearly saying exactly what he was talking about but stating it as if he was wrong"?

@omni Yes.

Today, I saw #FreeNet's main developer x0r (p0s) on the Steam Linux Hub being completely paranoid about how dangerous Steam for Linux may or may not be to your privacy and freedom. Having someone this paranoid develop a censorship-resistent, (pseudo-)anonymous alternative to the Internet as we know it makes me feel in safe hands: (http://steamcommunity.com/app/221410/discussions/0/882966056455673025/)

@omni A (probably) symbolic real time map of your disk clusters being remapped from fragmented positions to continuous ones. You can see the name of the file it's remapping at the top, and the clusters being pulled in from wherever they are on the disk into a neat little continuous block at the bottom.
-
@ceruleanspark That actually sounds pretty enjoyable.

@omni Yeah, it's hypnotic. There's a pattern that my brain can follow to the movements, so it pleases my overdeveloped pattern matching software, and it's bringing order to disorder, which I like. I would not be surprised to learn there's a 10 hour youtube video of someone defragging a 5tb disk.

@omni You miss out on my favourite by using your fancy non-fragmenting filesystems. JKDefrags graphical display is the most satisfying thing.
-
@ceruleanspark Hey, that's on PortableApps.com, cool.

@colfax It's the best windows defrag tool. Completely fire and forget, and relies on documented windows methods, so doesn't hose your disk if it's interrupted.
-
@ceruleanspark I'm liking this, thanks for mentioning it.

@redenchilada That's my problem really. I do actually care about doing a good job, and I'm put in a situation where I'm constantly told my best isn't enough.

@ceruleanspark sounds like me at work. I think once someone said why are you always smiling and I gently snapped and said fine. I won't
-
@ceruleanspark Reminds me of the time a boss asked me for my "honest opinion" on how he ran the business... you can imagine to results.
