"Here's rooting in a nutshell: Your Android smartphone is based on Linux. A big, bad, scary computer operating system known only by people with neck beards. (Only, not really. But mostly.)"

@pony I knew I fell out of style by not having a neckbeard! I knew it!

@omni oh good to see you! I was just preparing to root my phone actually. x3 I'm nervous.. it looks like I won't loose my apps and data if I use this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399 Is that true?
-
@pony Rooting shouldn't let you lose any data, but you should ALWAYS make a back-up. Also, that tutorial seems to be about installing a custom kernel. The modification seems to let you root something as well, but I'm not sure if a custom kernel is really what you want to use :x
-
@omni ah thanks for the info! I'm clueless about kernels. What I really want to do is access the game save data for one of my apps on my SGS2 so that I can hopefully back up the progress I've made before reinstalling it .. the MLP game is what I'm refering to.. it finally kicked the bucket on me. http://ur1.ca/bmlp0

@pony Ah, I see. Well, you'll have to be lucky that everything will go well and you won't lose anything then, but please make a backup anyway :x
-
@omni oh! enjoy! Thanks! You've been helpful already!

@pony well. Titanium backup free allows one app (including data) back up. That could work. Otherwise root your phone and ill walk you through the rest. Try supetoneclick. Was obly thing able to root my phone.

@firestormdangerdash @omni I've just set up the android SDK and have ADB working and recognizing my phone. Now I'm learning the commands and trying to just figure out how to find the data I want. Any tips are welcome :3
-
@pony well I have no idea about that but if you look under /data/data/ you can find all your apps. Look for one with gameloft in the name and mlp_save
-
!gameloft @firestormdangerdash I found it with the help of this hacking guide :3 http://roundcube3.blogspot.com/2012/11/reverse-engineering-with-ponies.html
