So what's this about a "space theme"? The only thing that looks different to me is the input box (which looks better than it used to, so I hope that much is backported to the regular theme)

@pony Weird, mine still looks completely normal except for the input box.
-
@toksyuryel I smile every time I read the site notice. xD
-
@toksyuryel Nah, the input box doesn't really work for light themes. Plus widget made core completely transparent, which imo doesn't really look nice, even on the public timeline :<
-
@redenchilada It works very well actually! http://ur1.ca/bwc5w
-
@toksyuryel Not at all, it stands out way too much from the rest of the page.
-
@redenchilada As it should.
-
@toksyuryel It looks garish and completely clashes with a light design. The regular textbox admittedly has this problem on dark designs, but in that case it's still acceptable because people will expect textboxes to be white by default. I dunno, maybe it could be dynamic based on the content color or something.
-
@redenchilada Well I like it. It makes it easier to see what I am typing and helps me remember it's there.
-
@toksyuryel I just think text boxes need a very good reason not to be white. A blank white box tells the user they can type here, while a blank box of any other color looks like decoration. It's possible to symbolize it in some other way, yeah, but in general it's better to be as intuitive as possible.
-
@redenchilada You'd have to be pretty thick to think this one was just decoration, given its placement and what it is surrounded by.
-
@toksyuryel Maybe, but leaving textboxes white in general is a good design practice. Very few designs have textboxes of any other color even on dark userpages.
-
@redenchilada This sounds suspiciously similar to "making all your links blue and underlined is a good design practice". If it's just based on tradition that isn't really a compelling reason for me. It's a big empty box with a bunch of formatting controls and a "send" button adjacent to it, what more do you need? Is someone really going to mistake that for a decoration? And if they do, are we certain we even want them attempting to interact with the community?
-
@toksyuryel That's a different concept. Links can stand out just by virtue of being any different color; if you see an odd-colored bit of text, you can assume it's a link.
-
@redenchilada And if you see a big empty box with a "send" button next to it, you can assume it's an input box.
-
@toksyuryel I'd rather it be light-colored so it makes sense being a text box, though.
-
@redenchilada Now you're just talking in circles.
-
@toksyuryel You've been repeating the same argument over and over.
-
@redenchilada @toksyuryel You're both being whining over something that doesn't matter and you could fix yourself if it was really that much of an issue.
-
@colfax Who's whining about anything, we're just having a discussion about design principles.
-
@colfax Neither of us were whining.
-
@toksyuryel Why are you running Mintrefresh?
-
@redenchilada @colfax I demand whining!
-
@pony THE TOP NAVBAR HAS TOO MANY ITEMS THE BACKGROUND DOESN'T TILE SEAMLESSLY WHY IS RAINBOW DASH JUST FLYING IN SPACE THIS THEME MAKES NO SENSE WAA WAA WAAAAAAAAAAAA
-
@redenchilada you reminded me of that
-
@redenchilada I'm more curious to know what's contracting the light that makes the rainbow if she's in space where water droplets wouldn't theoretically... oh wait I just thought of something nsfwoona.. anyway I guess rainbow physics work very differently in Equestria
RedEnchilada (notice the lack of a space) likes this. -
@pony Keep in mind the CMC drained the color out of a rainbow once.e
-
@fortecadenza precisely, plus the liquid rainbow at the weather factory
-
@pony Which is spicy.
-
@fortecadenza lol yeah
