Isolated another regression in the new youtube layout: you can no longer toggle email settings for your subscriptions anywhere but the manage subscriptions page.

@toksyuryel That's all you could do it from to start with. Why would you need any shortcuts to do something like that anyway?

@abigpony Wrong! You used to be able to toggle it from a thing that popped up when you hovered the mouse pointer over the "subscribed" button.

@toksyuryel Well, if you wanted to manage your subscriptions, wouldn't you use the Manage Subscriptions page for that?

@redenchilada That page is good for bulk actions, but when you're already watching a video or on their channel it was far more convenient to be able to just place your mouse pointer where it said "subscribed" and the options would just appear and you could toggle them right from there (or simply verify what they were currently set to).

@toksyuryel It's not something you're going to be messing with often and it's better to not go overboard with buttons on the page. It can go either way as to whether it's really better, but I can see their logic.

@redenchilada What's this "going overboard with buttons on the page" thing you're talking about. It added no extra buttons to the page. It used a button that was already on the page, and that in the new layout is still on the page.

@redenchilada And I mess with it often enough. Plus having it right there made it harder to forget to do it.

@toksyuryel It's a problem of overcomplicating the layout, though. If there are too many options, it'll confuse some people. I'm not saying it's objectively better, I'm just saying they had their reasons for changing it.

@abigpony Of course I am, I never claimed not to be. I love almost everything about the new layout. I'm just pointing out the regressions as I stumble across them.

@toksyuryel Option overload. I've said this three times already. Too many doodads appearing everywhere confuse the average user.

@redenchilada But it only appears at all when you hover the mouse pointer over the subscribed button, and goes away when you move it away from it.

@toksyuryel Personally, it annoyed me popping up when I moved over the button by accident trying to open the "more videos from this user" dropdown.

@redenchilada At first it annoyed me too, until I bothered to look at what the options were. Then I was thankful for it because it made me realize the email feature existed which saved youtube for me because keeping track of subscriptions via the front page was impossible.

@toksyuryel I just don't think that option needs to be there. If you're going to set everything to email you by default, there should be an option to do that automatically instead.

@toksyuryel Also, am I the only one who's never missed an upload just by watching the front page? Everyone seems to complain about that and I've never experienced that.

@redenchilada Apparently! Many, many times videos just would not appear on that page until days after they were uploaded, if ever.

@redenchilada Because I like their videos and want to support them but don't want them to flood my inbox when they upload 15 hour-long videos at once (GrimithR ~loves~ doing this). Because I subscribed to them a long time ago and their more recent videos don't interest me anymore but I don't want to unsubscribe. And whatever other reasons might exist.

@toksyuryel That just gets into the realm of turning subscriptions into some meta self-worth numbers game, though. If you're not watching their videos, there's really no reason to subscribe. :v
