@cheersong I noticed on your DA you list Ouendan as an interest. As in general the English community would be referring to the game, so I'm assuming you are as well. Do you play osu!?

@ponybis Bzzzzt!! While I do play the DS versions, the Ouendan I list in my interests is real, flesh-and-blood, gakuran-wearing, arm-pumping, cheer-yelling traditional cheer! I absolutely adore it!!

@cheersong That, believe it or not, has an English term. It's called "cheer-leading."

@ponybis YUMMY CHEER LEADERS

@kingcarcinopony PRE-DINNER SNACK

@madflavors WHAT

@ponybis Yeah, but cheerleading conjures up this image of bubbly girls in pleated skirts waving pom-poms. *ducks to avoid angry cheerleaders* While Ouendan's best translation in my mind is Cheer Squad, it's still got that connotation. While cheerleaders are awesome and I admire their flexibility and fearlessness, I like me some good old-fashioned hierarchal Ouendan.

@cheersong I've read some history of cheerleading in elementary school I believe. If I recall correctly the first "cheerleaders" to have the phrase coined for them were, indeed, male.
-
@ponybis Unfortunately, the (US) cultural perception has shifted so that it's considered almost exclusively feminine :\
