              1. @fluttershy48 The Mayans never stated that the world would end, as far as I know. I'm pretty sure it was another person or group back then, and they never said the world would end on December 21st, only that something special would happen as it is the start of a new period of life.

                1. @omni it was also said the world was supposed to end sometime in 1999 (cant remember date)

                  1. @fluttershy48 I've heard about that, but I think that was another person/group. I'm not sure which one, though. But we have this "the world will end" nonsense every few years. You'd think people would've learned by now that not everything means that the world will end. Otherwise, I expect the world to end on "4 December 292,277,026,596", as that is the last day that can be expressed in Unix Time on 64-bit systems.

                    1. @omni ya it was a other grup but if you think about and stuff there was a leap year so then the world would have ended about a year ago

                2. @omni The end of a baktun is simply a time of celebration in the same way the end of a century or millenium is. It does not have any specific significance, other than that most people never see one.

                  1. @ceruleanspark Ah, baktun! That's the term I was looking for. Thanks so much for fixing my mistakes there.
