  1. http://i.minus.com/ibcjrmQW8HUfG5.png Starting to organise my Start Screen a bit. Found a tool to make custom Windows 8 Tiles with icons. Now to change the background and such.

    1. @neurario Can you actually put your own desktop background there by default? The new Windows 8 screen really seemed even more limited than the default GNOME3 to me, although I must admit it at least looks good (though that isn't enough to make me want it :P)

      1. @omni windows 8 would be awesome with a Microsoft surface. Tablet with a tablet layout, as well as a laptop, with a proper desktop. Or a desktop and a Windows Mobile device. Same settings and everything across the one account

        1. @renovatedkitchen I think I'd prefer to give KDE Plasma Active on tablets a try, it looks really decent. A tablet that can multi-boot any Linux-based OS I want would be pretty much perfect for me, though.

      2. @omni Sadly, no. You can customise the pattern and the colour, but otherwise you'll be looking at third-party tools to do custom backgrounds. http://www.stardock.com/products/decor8

        1. @neurario Wow, and in the Linux world we're bashing GNOME3 for taking away screensavers, while Microsoft takes away desktop backgrounds completely... That's... insane.

          1. @omni Hang on, do you mean backgrounds in the actual desktop mode? Yeah, you can still have that as whatever you want, same with the lock screen I believe. The start screen is a separate part of UI that has the limited background options.

            1. @neurario The "actual desktop mode" is nothing more than a "fallback" mode, really. So yes, I mean that Windows 8 new "Start" thingy, which should definitely be something you can customize according to your wishes.

              1. @omni Okay. I just figured that should be clarified so we didn't get confused later on. :P But yeah, it is a bit strange that on that main screen you can't personalise it further than colours and pattern with the first party tools provided
