Is ReadyBoost useful if I have 6GB of RAM already?
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:03:32 UTC from web-
@nixter not really no. i never used it
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:04:11 UTC from web-
@unhipdruid well i did, then i noticed some programs crashing for no reason...
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:04:44 UTC from web -
@unhipdruid I'm guessing it's only good for really low-end computers that need a speed boost for easy tasks? (Like 512MB or RAM or whatever)
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:05:01 UTC from web-
@nixter i think so. (sits here with 16 GB RAM...) i have never really run out...
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:06:00 UTC from web-
@unhipdruid 16 GB of RAM? That's alotta RAM there.
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:07:13 UTC from web -
@unhipdruid You people and your insane amounts of RAM. What's wrong with 2GB?
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:07:14 UTC from web-
@omni 2 GB can't run Far Cry 3, that's why. (I'm content with my 6 GB but I'd like to have 7 or 8...)
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:08:03 UTC from web-
@nixter hmm, its a bit odd now days to get odd amounts of memory.
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:12:15 UTC from web-
@unhipdruid Odd as in strange, or odd as in uneven numbers
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:12:53 UTC from web-
@nixter hah oops
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:13:19 UTC from web -
@nixter it just doesnt happen these days

@omni @nixter its not that expensive. but this is really my hobby. building a monster of a computer. here you can see me rebuilding for a clean. ___________ http://imgur.com/a/o3OkP#0

@unhipdruid I could never do such a thing, I'd be looking at the parts, drooling having no idea what to get, then if I manage to get the things, I couldn't be able to put it together, and if I did manage, I'd probably forget the power source or something. Xp

@nixter theres a start for everything

@unhipdruid Well, that's quite a difference from my cheap PC.

@nixter If you find you're constantly running out of RAM, regardless of how much you have installed, then readyboost is useful because it's better to swap to solid state than a spinning disk. If your RAM sits mostly empty most of the time, then no, it's not worth bothering with.

@nixter no, thats your GPU not being able to render enough detail all of a sudden...
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:15:52 UTC from web -
@nixter You're better off lowering the graphic quality.
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:16:31 UTC from web-
@omni I usually turn off Shadows and ambient occlusion and the rest on medium or high, works for most games, but like Red Faction stutters due to it being... y'know... very destructive and explosive and many buildings falling into rubble. :p
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:18:53 UTC from web-
@nixter what resolution are you running at?
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:19:52 UTC from web-
@unhipdruid 1366x768 just like my laptop.
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:20:11 UTC from web-
@nixter hmm, i would try lowering the resolution a bit... that can really sap the Frames...
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:20:51 UTC from web -
@nixter are you using a laptop?
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:21:01 UTC from web-
@unhipdruid Indeed, it's not the most powerful thing, but I can manage many high end games to run pretty smooth.
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:21:55 UTC from web-
@nixter laptops have the issue where the processors are really under what they should be, and then the Bus efficiency is TERRIBLE to save power and most things on a laptop are passively cooled so it needs to control the performance a LOT...
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:23:03 UTC from web-
@unhipdruid So, uh, what
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:24:01 UTC from web-
@nixter either lower visual settings more, or need more powerful computer.
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:25:36 UTC from web-
@unhipdruid Okay, I'll do that.
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:28:45 UTC from web-
@nixter i try running everything as low as possible, then turning up some things that i can i like to keep at least 45 - 60 FPS (What GPU are you running? what laptop model?)
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:29:38 UTC from web-
@unhipdruid My laptop model is the HP Pavilion g6 Notebook, and my GPU is the HD Graphics Family
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:33:59 UTC from web-
@nixter well, thats your problem... integrated graphics processing is, how do i say it.... weak...
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:35:15 UTC from web-
@unhipdruid I'm guessing there is no way to make it better?
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:35:41 UTC from web-
@nixter without purchasing a new computer, no...
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:36:01 UTC from web-
@unhipdruid Oh well, maybe when I get money n' stuff I'll buy a desktop and just SATA to USB this ol' baby with all it's stuff onto the desktop.
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:37:05 UTC from web-
@nixter or plug the SATA Drive in directly to the SATA Controller on the board and get better transfer speeds.
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:37:49 UTC from web-
@unhipdruid Sure!

@nixter Laptop bad and slow.
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:26:06 UTC from web-
@omni I can run TF2 on all high and run it perfectly with no lag so it's aight
Saturday, 22-Dec-12 23:28:01 UTC from web-
@nixter TF2 is a very easy to run game, my OLD MBP with a terrible 9600M GT Graphics processor could any Source game easily. but none others....
