So Xabber !android !xmpp client will be open sourced in January (this is what is said in the latest market update)
- sasha repeated this.
-
@slubman they've also made a blog post about it: http://identi.ca/url/74650783
-
@scumpeter It's great to see they kept their promise, even though they didn't get enough followers. This should at least be an interesting competitor to GibberBot (does Xabber support OTR?)
-
@omni if they really do it, is to be seen... (Yes, it supports OTR).
-
@scumpeter We'll see. If it goes Open Source under an acceptable license I'll try it the moment it gets released, though.
-
I think GPL3 is an "acceptable license" to you. (They mentioned this license specifically in their blog)
-
@usrshare Should've read better than but yes, the GNU GPL is definitely on my list of acceptable licenses
-
#xabber promissed it before in 2011 ("soon") and there is gibberbot, that does OTR and is #opensource allready. So why bother? Talk is cheap
-
Well if everyone would care about FOSS, no one would buy Crapple/M$-Things.. but we all know that most people buy such bananas and dont care
-
Promoting FOSS should not reach religious levels. After all, many people _really need_ Windows or Mac OS.
-
@usrshare I suppose the question is if either of those could offer what they have while being FOSS
