Is Cadence immortal? Opinions...
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 06:46:14 UTC from web-
@pony Now that's a difficult one. The implications for her relationship with Shining are mind boggling if the answer is yes.

@kamikaze Once you marry a princess it kinda comes with the territory.
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 06:58:32 UTC from web-
@toksyuryel But it's only a cursory title, that he is assigned for the sake of sharing pillows with a princess.

@pony Shining armor was not stated to be a prince. Blueblood is but not ruling. I Think transformation into alicorn and the nobiliary title are not neccesarily related.
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 07:00:15 UTC from web-
@nerthos that's most likely. Less likely would be that it's gender related
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 07:01:32 UTC from web-
@pony I think an alicorn is always a royal. But being royal does not necessitate being an alicorn.
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 07:02:56 UTC from web -
@pony I don't think it's impossible for males to be alicorns, but since Equestria is a matriarchy, it is not required for them to become alicorns.
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 07:07:12 UTC from web-
@nerthos It would be convenient in matrimony.
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 07:09:20 UTC from web-
@kamikaze Race is not related to reproduction in Equestria, as proven by the cakes bearing an unicorn and a pegasus. Unless Ms. Cake was stupidly adulterous, which would anyway prove my point and also go against family morals. But anyway, a normal pony could probably impregnate an alicorn.
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 07:12:41 UTC from web-
@nerthos Actually that's not true. They explicitly mentioned unicorn and pegasus ancestry (one of them in each of the cakes). Apparently those are non-recessive (or the ancestry would have required in both parents to emerge), but neither dominant. It must be random or depend on environmental factors.
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 07:15:10 UTC from web-
@kamikaze If they have unicorn and pegasus ancestry, that means procreation between races is possible.
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 07:17:25 UTC from web-
@nerthos It's canon. Pinkie asked the cakes about it.
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 07:18:04 UTC from web-
@kamikaze So there's no need to make Shining an alicorn for him to impregnate Cadence.

@nerthos @kamikaze http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/Transcripts/The_Crystal_Empire_-_Part_1 do ctrl+f "prince shining"
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 07:12:19 UTC from web-
@pony Twilight mentions Shining Armor as a prince, but never Celestia or Luna do so. The document she reads was made by her as far as I remember.
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 07:14:48 UTC from web-
@nerthos Yeah but I doubt it's a mistake on Twilight's part. She's very conscious about that sort of thing
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 07:16:13 UTC from web-
@pony @nerthos I've got to get going. Maybe I'll manage to pick this up later. It's a nice topic to indulge in.
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 07:18:57 UTC from web-
@kamikaze Good bye. I'm going to go too in a while since I have to wake up somewhat early.

@pony Maybe ageless. I don't think any character is immortal, though no villain in their right mind would kill Celestia or Luna because no daycycle=death to all.
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 06:57:03 UTC from web-
@nerthos A sufficiently large number of unicorns can take care of this.
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 06:58:46 UTC from web-
@kamikaze If they know the right spell. I don't think Celestia and Luna actually use base levitation spells, since mass would make that impossible considering their raw magical power. Take for example Twilight, being probably the most magically gifted unicorn, lifting the ursa minor, and then compare to the mass of an average star. If Celestia used a base levitation for the sun, then she would hav had enough raw energy to obliterat boh Chrisalys and the whole Canterlot in s2 finale whn channling an offensive spell against her. Unless you're into conspiracy theories and think she's just hiding her power for the sak of testing Twilight.

@nerthos COME ON E KEY, REALLY?
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 07:04:56 UTC from web -
@nerthos Well, there was a discussion about this some time ago. And the consensus was that sun and moon are very small celestial bodies orbiting the planet at a close distance. So mass need not be so great.
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 07:07:36 UTC from web-
@kamikaze It's probably still some kind of spell designed specifically for moving celestial bodies. The sun needs to have a crtain size to have enough gravity to keep itself together anyway.
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 07:09:18 UTC from web-
@nerthos Only if you assume that it's a fusion reactor. It could be a magical entity.

@nerthos I like both ideas. I'd love to believe Celestia was holding back but I'm afraid that's just my bias.. It's more likely I think that raising the sun and moon is not a matter of kinesis the same way that levitation is.
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 07:25:15 UTC from web-
@pony My headcanon is that both princesses are depleted, considering they're no longer the bearers of the elements and that Luna was imprisoned and Celestia doing both's work. They've been consistently doing a job that wasn't theirs in the first place since they overthrown Discord. If they just let go of their duties for a coupl centuries, I believe they would become far more powerful. That might be the reason of the crowning of Twilight, to step back and recover.
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 07:29:59 UTC from web-
@nerthos I like to hope that Chrysalis was actually correct and that Shining's love actually did transform into raw magical power sufficient to defeat an extremely powerful Celestia.

@nerthos I hope alicorns are ageless, but Cadence seems to haave aged since she foal-sat Twi.. Maybe they only age to full maturity
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 07:15:23 UTC from web-
@pony That's my headcanon (age to maturity).
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 07:16:06 UTC from web -
@pony Probably, since it wouldn't make sense for them to be born adults. Or maybe they just magic their age away with advanced age spells.
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 07:16:45 UTC from web-
@nerthos @kamikaze right. We know that age magic exists so it's very possible they don't need a different biology to remain young and simply use magic
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 07:20:08 UTC from web-
@pony We never saw an unicorn of advanced age in the show, did we?
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 07:22:03 UTC from web-
@nerthos hmm.. not as far as I can recall nope!
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 07:25:33 UTC from web -
@nerthos maybe starswirl the bearded? but the only way we can tell he was aged is the costume beard Twi wore.. it could have been gray as his natural color though, and not due to age.
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 07:28:26 UTC from web-
@pony He was only stated to be bearded, not of old age. Unicorns can cast themselves hair of different colors, as proven by Twilight in Trixie's episode.
Wednesday, 30-Jan-13 07:31:07 UTC from web-
@nerthos many possibilities. Also, though I doubt it, he could have simply dyed his hair like Mayor Mare.
