@thatonestocking yep
Sunday, 10-Feb-13 03:30:54 UTC from web-
The local arcade's been closed for renovations since December and they said they were gonna reopen mid-January. I'm getting impatient for my obscure Japanese racers and rhythm games, man.
-
@redenchilada please tell me your arcade has plenty of Street Fighter machines so I can be jealous. The "arcade" in my town consists of a broken Daytona USA machine and a deer hunter in the mall.
-
@rarity http://arcadeufo.com/arcade.php There are probably other arcades, but that's the one I know of and the one I'm talking about

-
@redenchilada GG and AE? I'm officially jelly
-
@redenchilada better Rhythm games then light gun bullcrap. Although the only rhythm games I've ever been good at are Guitar Hero. Funny story actually, They have GH arcade machines at Dave and Busters, nothing is more fun then destroying 13 year olds who think they can take me on at GH.
-
@rarity The Gatti's on the south side of town (where I go to play ITG) and the local Austin's Park both have GH machines, actually. I'm pretty good at it, but I'm not paying a dollar for one song. :|
-
@redenchilada A dollar? I don't think they were that much at D&B... which is weird for a big chain. But it's been a while, maybe I'm wrong.
-
@rarity Most rhythm games cost a dollar a play (understandable, since they're a lot more expensive to produce and maintain than other kinds of machines) but at least DDR/ITG/stuff give you 3-4 songs for that dollar. (Heck, the Groove machine I play at has a code for free plays, so I pay a dollar if that for a whole day. Plus the $10 to get in, but that also includes the buffet.)
-
@redenchilada nice! When I lived in Miami there was one like that. You pay 6 bucks and you could play any of the xboxes/ps3 all day, including the xbox that was in a custom built arcade cabinet for Ffighting games. no entrance fee either~ How the grapes do you play games like ITG anyway? Do they have as steep a learning curve as they seem to have, or do you just have to be naturally talented at hem?
-
@rarity ITG was just practice for me. Once you learn to read the arrows properly (tip: good stepcharts alternate feet between every step unless it tells you otherwise) it's just having the energy to get through a song if you wanna get to the expert difficulties.
-
@redenchilada do you do that "lean back with hands on the bar" things?
-
@rarity Yeah, I'm a loser noob scrub who plays bar. The ITG community encourages it, actually.
-
@redenchilada wait, that's considered scrubby? I thought it was pro strats.
-
@rarity It depends on the community. ITG? Encouraged and everyone does it. DDR? LOSER NOOB SCRUB GTFO
-
@redenchilada but... the games aren't even that different!
-
@rarity But the communities are!
-
@rarity The communities surrounding them have highly different opinions of what they want out of each game. Freestyling is (or was, at least) a thing in the DDR community from what I've heard, while ITG is all about the game itself and getting better at it.
-
@toksyuryel why, though? I'm not really a rhythm gamer, but when FGC games are similar the communities generally are similar, e.g. Guilty Gear and Blaz Blue
-
@redenchilada WHY CANT THEY JUST BE FRIENDS
-
@rarity oh no sorry! I ment sick
-
@blues4th derp
-
@thatonestocking I'm sorry but GTFO
-
@thatonestocking You freestyle by making yourself look like even more of an idiot on the machine than usual. Flips, handstands, stuff like that.
-
@redenchilada HOLY COW, how is that not banned by the arcades or something? You think they'd be worried about some idiot kicking the screen.
-
@rarity /shrug
-
@thatonestocking They don't even have remotely the same buttons.
-
@redenchilada I need to see a video of this stuff
-
-
@rarity http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViLgAXoZk7M Here is a video on how the communities of each game differ. It also touches on the Pump community! (But that's not as funny)
-
@rarity (I was slightly exaggerating what they usually do when they freestyle.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8jV4QNp_YU Pump is a similar game and there's a bit of freestyle in that community too. This is probably the best example I have on hand. (Probably #nsfw)
-
@thatonestocking Guilty Gear: Punch, Kick, Slash, Heavy Slash, Dust. BB: A, B, C, Drive. not even close
-
@rarity I've played both. They're basically the same game.
-
@rarity (Also skip to 1:00, that's where it begins)
-
@redenchilada they're not even playing the game! I can flail around like a retard for christ sakes
-
@nerthos They have a similar feel, but all freaking anime games do. but the flow of the games are so different. GG is so much more footsie based, while BB is all about getting that one touch to get a kill combo.
-
@rarity That's basically what "freestyle" is. I dunno much about it, but from what I know it's less about getting a good score and more about being as goofy as possible while still actually passing the song.
-
@rarity I play both the same way and win against other players the same way.
-
@nerthos I'm talking high level play.
-
@redenchilada that's dumb, imo.
-
@rarity /shrug. I would have to spend a month cracking the game to engage in that.
-
@rarity /shrug
-
@thatonestocking okay, I was kind of following you with the GG/BB talk... but P4A is so weird. I'm good at GG/BB, but I spent a week trying to understand P4A and didn't get it. Your persona is like an assist but it isn't...I hate that game.
-
@nerthos @redenchilada why can't I hold all these /shrus
-
@rarity /shrugs*
-
@thatonestocking hehe brain pokemon
-
@thatonestocking Also the timing for links is too frigging tight for a game that fast.
-
@thatonestocking Brain digimon?
