@pony I don't think this will kill the whole Brony thing. It would be disappointing that they wasted a movie on it, but I don't see this killing my personal enjoyment of the show and some of the fandom's creations. I mean, this is my reaction and I'm curious about what you think about it

@pony As are /mlp/ and various other factions. The general consensus is that this is the "New secondary IP" using the new Equestria Girls trademark that hasbro were talking about in that presentation (The "things change, but friendships remain magical") one. From the one image that everyone has, it looks like its positioned as Hasbro's answer to Monster High.

@pony It is, by all accounts, a completely separate IP for a totally separate target market. Hasbro has literally billions of dollars, so the only reason it'd take resources from the core IP (Which the NYC toy fair illustrates that Hasbro is extremely commited to) is if Hasbro themselves saw reason to do so.

@nerthos I wouldn't mind if it fit into the show canon even, as long as it's temporary. xP I'd think it might even reinvigorate the fan community

@pony Looking at the other sudden changes they've made to their other toylines, it seems like Hasbro has only just realised that girls between the age of 11 and 15 exist and they don't magically go from "Child" to "Adult outside of marketing range" overnight.
