bah.. I want food, but I don't know what to eat since we started trying to go paleo.

@pony Choripán.

@nerthos looks like that has bread in it. Paleo is gluten free.

@pony Paleo as in caveman diet?
Thursday, 28-Feb-13 16:08:15 UTC from web-
@nerthos yep!

@pony Hahaha.

@nerthos It's a thing now. It's supposed to be really healthy.
Thursday, 28-Feb-13 16:10:28 UTC from web-
@pony It's pretty stupid. The discovery of fire and cooked food added decades to the lifespan of men.
Thursday, 28-Feb-13 16:12:21 UTC from web-
@nerthos paleo allows for cooking. Cavemen probably had fire I'm guessing.

@pony Good luck living past 50.

@nerthos Folks like me on average live about 10 years longer than most. :) I mean really, we can manipulate the ingedients as much as we like, but paleo requires avoiding any tpe of food that takes a very long time to grow or process as I understand.

@pony I honestly don't see the point on thos things.

@nerthos The idea of it is not to eat anything that requires systematised agriculture. No grain, wheat, pasta, potatoes. Basically no carbohydrate and not a lot of dairy products.
-
@ceruleanspark So, basically, ignoring the practices that made humanity settle and allowed for society to exist.
Thursday, 28-Feb-13 16:26:23 UTC from web-
@nerthos I dunno, you're the guy who's always saying that vegetarianism or veganism are poor diets because they're not what we're adapted to eat. This diet is basically that.
-
@ceruleanspark My problem is with restrictive diets in general. We're omnivores. We're supposed to eat a bit of everything.
Thursday, 28-Feb-13 16:38:11 UTC from web-
@nerthos The paleo diet argues that we are not true omnivores in that our ability to adequately process carbohydrates is far outsripped by what we consume. Given that various actual scientific bodies have advocated low carb diets since before Dr Atkins broke his head, it's not really a new thing.
-
@ceruleanspark My point is that a varied diet managed to keep me above-average healthy for 20 years so far.

@nerthos I think the operative part of your statement was "A bit" of everything. Most people massively overload their diets with certain food groups without realising (Especially if, like americans, you eat out a lot)
-
@ceruleanspark Well you have a point there. The key is keeping some kind of balance. And I /do/ eat a whole lot of food.

@ceruleanspark >Does not get the opportunity to eat much T.T >Feels bad American

@nerthos nice thing about paleo is that it encourages the consumption of meat (I'm not sure to what extent though.. I'd have to ask my wife).
Thursday, 28-Feb-13 16:46:42 UTC from web-
@pony ASK YOUR WIFE ABOUT CONSUMING MEAT EH.
-
@ceruleanspark I can't think of any puns with which to respond. You win.

@pony I have meat-based dishes four times a week, pasta twice, fish-based once, vegetable-based twice, an pizza night. And then the rest is what's more appealing/I crave.

@nerthos all yummy! In any case, paleois magic, but it's a pain to follow while you live as a student without a dishwasher.
