Another day I wake up, another day I feel like complete crap. I decided to go fiddle with my old Android Tablet and USB 2.0 external hard drive, turn it into an FTP of sorts... seems I am having trouble getting into the directory listing, not the device. Maybe this is a limitation on Android's part ?

@critialcloudkicker A rooted android phone basically gives you complete control of the device. You can do stuff like system apk's uninstalls, installing different roms, and accessing system files and directories

@archon Soo... basically I become my own device's super user... I have to look into that... I never really fiddled with Android.

@critialcloudkicker yup, actually "Super User" is the name of one of the rooted apps that allows certain programs to access and have controll over your phones files lol

@archon Wait what, they named an app to attain "Super User" status for a device that runs on a linux sorta OS "Super User" ? ... not sure if that is brilliant or.... nah probably brilliant

@critialcloudkicker Well, the app doesn't necessarily give you super user status, it just makes it easier for you to allow certain programs to have super user status, it also monitors those apps/programs

@archon So for an app like root browser, youd have to open up super user and give that app super user access before you can actually use it to browse system directories and edit system files

@archon Oh I am sorry, I used to fiddle around with old Linux, Suse 4.0 and stuff. Back there you had to have "Super User" priveleges to do most of the configuring going on. Pretty much the equivallent of today's "Sudo" command in Ubuntu. @minti understood what I was going for :) ... As for not exactly being the same *shrug* I guess I will find out as I go... work FTP you

@critialcloudkicker ah, well rooting the phone is the same as having root access (super user privileges) on linux, where as the super user app is just a program to make it easier to give apps root access

@archon So (and this is the last thing im going to say, otherwise I wont shut up) Imagine having root access on linux, and whenever you go to edit some system files or configure something, you got a message saying that the program you're using has been granted root access, thats what the super user app does in a nutshell, it monitors what has root access and grants root access to programs you use when you request it.
