    1. @mnichman text editor mostly is matter of taste. IMO Sublime Text is quite pretty & functional but its commercial so it's up to you

    2. @mnichman I use Vim, but gVim, Sublime Text, Kate and maybe Gedit are the goto editors. Some twisted folk use emacs.

    3. @mnichman If you start using emacs, you get in the danger that no other editor might be able to satisfy you anymore… :)

    4. @mnichman It'd be helpful to know what Desktop Environment you use, GNOME or KDE, it makes a difference in what programs you'll enjoy using.

    5. @mnichman That said, gEdit normally comes installed on distros using GNOME. Enable the Snippets plugin, etc, and it becomes pretty powerful.
