@widget What was the issue last night anyway? Did you get hiphop working and try to set it up or did the server just fall over and die?
Monday, 15-Apr-13 14:30:47 UTC from StatusNet Android-
@redenchilada Hiphop upgraded GlibC which caused a lot of other things to fail. Rolling back caused /aptitude/ to fail. He did something clever by manually downloading all the hosed apps and dpkging them into place.

@ceruleanspark Aww, so it WAS hiphop. I was looking forward to seeing that work, personally

@redenchilada So load up facebook. It's really not that interesting unless you're looking at the stats from the server side.
-
@ceruleanspark Well I'm aware of it, but from what I can tell it'd make the site run better? Faster page loads and less crashing? Or am I mistaken?
Monday, 15-Apr-13 15:29:38 UTC from web-
@redenchilada It compiles PHP to C++ so it'll run faster on the server side. It would presumably kill the 502's, but otherwise it doesn't alter the code. Statusnet will still suck, and we'll still have to wait on crappy mysql statements to return before pages will load. I haven't really done a lot of analysis of the page load times, but I suspect improving the PHP side is well into the territory of diminishing returns, particularly on nginx+PHP-FPM+Memcached+APC.

@ceruleanspark I see.

@redenchilada It basically makes the site run more smothly. We should ask widget to post now and then comparative charts.

@widget Nice to know the software will flat-out remove your HTTP server on you. :/ Good thing it got fixed, anyway.
