At the risk of throwing petrol into a furnace, I find the fact that Xbox One will not be supported in Japan at launch to be very telling.

@rotation It doesn't matter much anyways. Japan really doesn't touch the Xbox brand. They tend to keep to Nintendo and Sony's consoles. Apparently they also for the most part dislike western games. :\

@flamingpandaomg Didn't the original Xbox do average/mediocre in Japan? Anyway, I was thinking more along the lines of 'What is the incentive for Japanese publishers and developers to create titles for a platform barely supported in their own market?'.
Thursday, 13-Jun-13 10:14:46 UTC from web-
@rotation I thought it did poor based on some article I read about gaming trends in Japan, but it might have been inaccurate. And I honestly hope Japan doesn't even bother with the One in general. There's no incentive for Japanese publishers and developers to create titles for it. They should just keep with Sony and Nintendo. I will be, at least.

@flamingpandaomg Unfortunately, Microsoft doesn't give two hoots about anything outside the US. Even more unfortunately, it seems some people there will buy it. Maybe they really like the idea of having a water cooler next to their telly? I don't know. (Please Note: I don't want to see Microsoft drop out of the console market, I think they just need a boot up the metaphorical nether regions when it comes to their strategies)

@rotation I don't want to see Microsoft drop either, I just don't agree with nearly anything with this console or how they're handling.... well, anything. It's a shame that Microsoft doesn't seem to give a crap about anything outside the US though. Europe/Australia is a good portion of their userbase. I'll be getting a PS4 at some point, but only once it has decent games. Console launches tend to be disappointing, game-wise. I hope to get a Wii-U (if it ever gets any good games..) and upgrading to a 3DS XL. Those are all far away from now though, since I don't have a job yet.

@flamingpandaomg One of my friends is a big time Nintendo fan. He claims that there will probably be a price drop and a bundle for the WiiU with Smash Bros for roughly 250 Euro. I am not sure if I am even interested in the WiiU if the games are thusfar not THAT appealing to me. Oh sure Nintendoland looks fun, but, it probably never gets close to the amount of time I put in GTA:San Andreas. And neither will Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate ( The games my friend has played the most, so he claims )

@critialcloudkicker The only games that looked good to me so far Are the 2 Legend of Zelda games, Monster Hunter, Nintendoland and Super Smash Bros, but I'll definitely have it for 3DS, so I don't count it as incentive to buy a WiiU. Also, I'm kinda praying that they improve the battery life of the pad. I read somewhere it has a depressingly short battery life, at least when it originally came out.
Thursday, 13-Jun-13 10:59:57 UTC from web-
@flamingpandaomg I think they fixed the battery life. I however do not have any intent of buying a 3DXL... I would not know what for. When I am traveling I usually read a book or watch a movie ( And I have enough books and movies lying about to last myself a train-trip to the moon, if a train went there ). And at home I would probably not touch it either for I think it is a waste not to use a gigantuaur and in every way superior piece of hardware in the corner of my room.

@critialcloudkicker I'm definitely getting a 3DS XL. My 3DS I have now is more than fine, but the screen size and cramped buttonspace leaves a bit to be desired, and they improved battery life. The WiiU is more of a whimsy than anything else.

@flamingpandaomg You are appearently already a handheld fan then. In which case I can only reccommend you getting a 3DXL eventually. For me... I am not a handheld fan

@critialcloudkicker I had a PSP at one point, and I didn't like it all that much. I did get every Game Boy that ever game out though, and I had a DS for the longest time till I stopped getting games for it and it fell into disuse. I love my 3DS though, and I'm loyal to Nintendo and would get the 3DS XL regardless.

@flamingpandaomg What is wrong with the PSP ?
Thursday, 13-Jun-13 11:11:42 UTC from web-
@critialcloudkicker All of the PSPs minus the Vita weren't that great. They had a hcoice few games that were great, but the rest were average at best. and there's something about the whole lack of dual analog sticks when it's games almost begged for them didn't help. The 3DS gets away with it in almost every game but ... 2 that I can think of, those being Resident Evil and Monster Hunter, which ARE playable without, but you greatly benefit from buying this addon thing you attach to the 3DS and it adds a second analog stick. It's pretty cheap and it doesn't make the 3DS bulky still.

@flamingpandaomg Oh, I just CFW'd my PSP and I am capable of playing PS1 games on it and pretty much all low-tier emulators you can think of. Even a HUGE library like that did not turn me into a handheld loving gamer
Thursday, 13-Jun-13 11:16:40 UTC from web-
@critialcloudkicker I used to play my DS religiously until I couldn't get games for it nearly as often as I burnt through them (back when I was too young to get a job and my family was too financially unstable to buy things on a whimsy like that)

@flamingpandaomg I don't know how the profit margins work out, but according to estimates, Xbox 360 outsold Playstation 3 with a ratio of 3:2 in North America, but was outsold by a significant amount worldwide (Lifetime sales). I look at that and think that Microsoft could and should do more when it comes to other territories. Being outsold by a more expensive console with a very similar software library? Sets off warning bells in my head, but I'm probably mad.

@rotation Oh I can't wait for some serious stuff to crash and burn in the gamer market. Do I want another 1984 ? I would not mind actually. Why ? Dev's and Pub's have been getting away with so much money for so little content. Sure if they want to get more money out of a game then they should release worthwhile DLC's. And if you try that Saints Row the Third stuff, that is not worthwile DLC, that is argueably gamer-money-laundering. And this is not even touching the personal grudge I have against Microsoft who seems to be breaking gamer dreams everywhere, XboX360 online XboX original games anyone ? "oh boy this stuff does not make money, we better shut it down" ... I am sorry but you are NOT making me confortable about buying a console ever again
Thursday, 13-Jun-13 10:53:57 UTC from web-
@critialcloudkicker DLC doesn't really bother me, as I often don't buy it. Unfortunately, the other option is an increase in price for each game. Off the top of my head (no facts to back this up) the cost of game development has increased over the last 5 years, but the price has held (In the UK at least, despite significant inflation). Someone's losing money there, they'll want it back somehow. I doubt we'd get a crash in the market. I think we'll see the death of the gaming industry spread from the inside out, and a gradual drop in annual sales. Publishers might start to take risks, which won't pay off, and I don't think they'll recover. At the end of it, there will just be 6 or 7 publishers, pushing the same horrible games that people will continue to buy just to pass the time. But don't listen to me, I know nothing of business trends.

@rotation " I doubt we'd get a crash in the market. " ... Possibly, possibly not, If I am only looking at CoD there have been more and more negative things surfacing around one of the top sellers, going worse and worse every "new" release. And now there is Colonial Marines and XboX One ( dare I go as far as to call it ) "scandals" ? It might happen sooner than you think... Or it might not, Either way the ball is in the Dev's and Pub's court now. Lest we all go buy a PC

@critialcloudkicker This is me speaking from no position of knowledge again, but video games make such a large amount of money these days, firms (and perhaps governments) would not permit such a large scale crash and would make an attempt to stabalise the profits. I'll be willing to bet 10 americapounds that the video game industry in the US makes more money than General Motors, and the state saved them from going under.
Thursday, 13-Jun-13 11:15:23 UTC from web-
@rotation Question: What's an 'americapound'? XD
Thursday, 13-Jun-13 11:16:50 UTC from web-
@flamingpandaomg Americapound refers to any currency used in North America. Can be Canadian dollar, Yank dollar or Mexican Peso depending on the context. Substitute as necessary. I started using it after visiting Canadia last year and noticing shops taking all three currencies and not really caring.

@rotation I think you just lost 10 Ameripounds there buddy. Why ? General Motors is part of the visible infrastructure and without General Motors there is a BIG problem when it comes to future plans of multiple, perhaps even oil-based, long term govnerment plans. Meanwhile the gaming industry is bigger than the USA's total deficit and it's effects are lesser known and felt less should XboX and/or Sony fail. Even if the big and mighty USA wanted to do something about XboX going under, I doubt if even making 2 more Obama titanium coins and directly giving them to the video industry will make any diffrence. Go look at the moment in time where EA's stock went down 4/6th, and see what happned there.
