  1. I wonder if the XBox One digital game sharing could have somehow been salvaged, but it seems the reaction to the DRM requirements from prospective players was so severe (for good reason), that the only way MS could save face was to go back to their old system.

    1. @pony I think, MS, in their near-fatal detatchment from reality, genuinely thought the DRM was an acceptable compromise for the diskless sharing thing. That people would want the diskless sharing so much they'd ignore the DRM

      1. @ceruleanspark They weren't subtle and crafty enough. They'll have to take choke consumer rights more gradually.

        1. @pony They should hire Gabe Newell.

          1. @ceruleanspark oh what has Gabe been up to? How is he qualified to lull the customers into a false sense of security?

              2. "Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold." It seems like MS could take some tips from Steam. Doesn't Steam allow sharing?

                1. @pony If it does I've been unaware of it. It's dumb though that they still made their changes negative. Sure the DRM's gone, but now there won't be sharing. Microsoft's a dumb murdock, to be honest.

                  1. @flamingpandaomg I've heard Steam players talk about gifting games to each other. Is that at a reduced price or free as a promotion for buying certain games? I guess that's a lot like sharing, but not.

                    1. @pony Oh no, you can just buy a copy and gift it to someone if they want it and can't afford it. You're just buying the copy of the game for their account for them.

                      1. @flamingpandaomg oh I see. hmm.. well then I guess MS isn't too far from being like Steam in how they manage their digital-only games.

                        1. @pony Steam at least lets you buy games for other people through gifting. Microsoft doesn't let you do that. You'd have to buy a microsoft points card, scratch off the crap, give them the code, have them redeem the card, then buy the game for theirselves.

                          1. @flamingpandaomg MS points are going away. Perhaps gifting will follow on from that.

                            1. @ceruleanspark ..perhaps. They should have kept sharing games. Just another point that Microsoft really doesn't listen to their fanbase unless they cause an uproar.

                          2. @flamingpandaomg That would be easy enough to fix I suppose. If MS were smart they'd do like Steam does.
