@critialcloudkicker I have an old android phone I don't use anymore so now it's my bedside clock and pandora/other streaming services device so I don't have to use my phone for that stuff.

@critialcloudkicker That was my phone I'm using currently before I remembered I had the old phone. I'd use the alarm application on it and I woke up with a crash warning on the screen.

@critialcloudkicker Granted, that's the only time that the alarm didn't go off in 4 years of using an android device as an alarm clock, and I think it was a problem with the phone in general because I had to get it replaced after it went into an infinite boot loop.

@critialcloudkicker Eh. It got replaced under warranty so it didn't cost me a thing and it was replaced in two days.

@critialcloudkicker It wasn't old. This happened a month ago. Old phone - LG Optimus V, Phone that froze up - LG Optimus Elite, Current phone - Second LG Optimus Elite.

@critialcloudkicker 1 failure in 4 years and 2 devices sounds a hell of a lot better than the small cross-section of HTC and Samsung devices I've used. (Now on a Nexus 4, which is LG too, so I'll get back to you on that in two years. :P)

@critialcloudkicker I love LG. The phone freezing up was a rare thing. I would definitely recommend the Optimus Elite or later though, because even the Elite's a bit old by now (Gingerbread), while the V is Froyo and pretty low specs.

@flamingpandaomg I must admit I am rusty on my android names... But wouldn't low specs be a bad thing ?

@critialcloudkicker Yes. Low specs are a bad thing. The higher the specifications, the more applications and games that the phone can play, and the better the camera quality.

@critialcloudkicker You're misreading, I think - he means to say go for something at least as recent as the Elite, because the V had lower specs.

@bitshift Probably, I personally always use "newer" and "older" when describing models. "later" is kind of a weird word I think

@critialcloudkicker and the reason why I mentioned the Android versions is because Froyo is version 2.2-2.2.3, while Gingerbread is 2.3-2.3.7, and Google's already up to the successor of version 4.3. Both Froyo and Gingerbread are quite dated by now, so if you could find something that had Ice Cream Sandwich or later, you'll be much happier overall.

@flamingpandaomg I know of the Nexus 4. But I am really afraid of the glass backside ( because of breaking ) and the fixed memory

@critialcloudkicker It's not fixed. It has a SD card slot that allows you to add more storage.

@flamingpandaomg You must be thinking of a different device - the Nexus 4 definitely doesn't.

@critialcloudkicker and the backside you could always get a shock-resistant case to help with that, but I'm never in any situation where the material the phone's case would be of any importance.

@bitshift Never mind. They only mention that it doesn't allow SD cards once, but go on about how to transfer files to the SD card two sentences down.

@critialcloudkicker No you were correct. I mistakenly thought it did because of a T-Mobile article on the Nexus 4 and how to transfer files to an SD card.

@flamingpandaomg currently 332.-- Euro for a 16GB one ( black skin ) ... If I am not going to be able to put in an SD-card I am pretty sure I am going to need 16 GB

@critialcloudkicker Overall I think @bitshift would be better to ask for a recommendation on more up to date Android phones, because I'm still stuck with stuff from 2 years ago. I couldn't give you an honest recommendation since I have no actual experience with newer Android devices.

@bitshift @flamingpandaomg Well, In the end I am not going to need a new phone for 7 months. I think it would be wiser to look at new developments in the market then and there, wouldn't you agree ?

@critialcloudkicker More than likely. Android changes really quickly so KitKat might be out by then.

@critialcloudkicker Definitely. (Although the way the market's currently going, I would put good money on the Nexus 4's successor (rumors say it's going to be the Nexus 5, but that's in no way official) being a very nice choice at that point. :P)

@critialcloudkicker The successor to Jelly Bean is called KitKat, going along with Google's codename theme of naming their Android versions after sweets.

@bitshift What if around that time here is a HUGE difference between shops here, and the shops across the canal or ocean ( the UK and the USA respectively ) ... What should or should I not do when deciding to want one from there ?

@critialcloudkicker Probably import, I suspect. I can't see how it's going to be cheaper to pay the same kind of price difference they have on the current one, and the phone's unlocked anyway, so there's nothing stopping you using a UK-bought one in Europe, or so on. (Hell, mine defaulted to US English on the first-time setup, so they're probably all set up identically.)
